The Methodist Episcopal church was
largely attended last evening by the
members of that denomination as well
as many other believers in the good
work of John Wesley the founder of
Methodism, Yesterday was the twohandredth anniversary of the birth of
that eminent divine, and specjgi services had been prepared to conimemorate the occasion. The life and works
of the grand and noble man were
spoken of by the pastor, Rev. Wm.
Angwin, Mrs. Landsburg, John Polkinghorn and Rev. John Tamblyn,
and the early trials and tribulations
of the founder of the belief. were thoroughly gone over and attentively listo by the large assemblage.

The solo by Mrs. Henry Schroeder was
par:icalarly noted and many were
the words of praise for’the manner in
which it was executed. Everyone who
was in attendance speak in the highest

so carefally prepared.
The Jongregational church, Rev. J.
Sims, pastor, was crowded last evening, the occasion being the observance
of Children’s Day by the scholars of
the Sunday school, assisted by the
choir, which rendered several beautifulanthems. The dialogues and recitations by the young people were
pleasing and spoke highly of the efforts of their teachers in impressing on
their minds the truths of a Christian
life. The singing and music of the
choir were excellent and the: large audience was highly pleased with their
efforts. The address by the pastor
was listened to with the closest attention and his remarks were well received. The programme as puplished
in Saturday evening’s TRaANSORIPT was
given in full and every number received the approbation of the listeners.
During the evening a large collection

Gassaway is a christian man, as well as
being talented and a good speaker,
and it is said he proposes to build a

that he will not give employment to

Mr. Gassaway is a man who stands
