A BIG-SIZED MINING BOOM. Is Sure to Reach This Coast Before Many Months Elapse. The Bulletin of last evening says: ‘The opinion that we are on the. eve of a revival of mining on this slope is shared by Irwin ©, Stump, who has just arrived from the East. Mr, Stump is well known as the ex-manager of the Haggin and Hearst properties, and has now charge of the Hearst estate. He was chosen for these responsible positions on account of his notorious conservatism; he is in fact one of those hard-headed men who believe what they see, and little more, When such a man states that he looks for a genuine boom in mining in this country, the statement will command general attention. His idea is partly based on the contagious character of mining booms. There is at this moment a perfect rage for mining investments ‘in London, Paris and Berlin, Fortunes have been made out of the new gold mines in South Africa which have been so frequently ‘mentioned, From South Afriga the epidemic spread to Southwestern Australia, where fine nuggets have been found, é In the meantime, leading American ‘promoters, under the: lead of John Mackey, D. O, Mills; and Senator Jones, are preparing for the spread of the epidemic to this country, There is more gold-bearing territory in California, Nevada; Colorado, Utab, Montana and Idaho than there is: in all South Africa, and the mineral that has been extracted is. but a mere atom. compared with what remains, It has been that the Sierras alone in this: State contain as much stored gold as the whole of the South African republic; A mining revival on this slope will be based on the new reduction processes which enable ores that were valueless twenty years ago to be worked profitably today, ‘Ten. years ago, in the last ‘days of Senator Sharon, an ore carrying less than $20 per ton in gold. and silver was generally supposed to be worked for the benefit of the mill owner rather than for the miner, Now, the experience of the Black Hills miners has taught us that $10 ore can be reduced with profit, and that there is money in ore which carries $7 and $8 worth of gold if it is not too refractory, The money of the future is to be derived from low-grade ores, This is a substantial foundation for a tigured mining boom, a development of the mining industry than the pursuit of pockets of high-grade ore which are reasonably to be exhausted after a few years or months of exploitation, Nature has distributed pockets and nuggets of rich ore with a niggardly hand. Where they are found it is safe to expect long stretches of lean rock in their vicinity. Mining in such localities partakes of the nature of gambling, One day the rock yields thousands and the stock shoots skywards, the next day the ore is barren and the stock collapses, Such mining is conducted on the exchanges rather than in the shafts, and thus the industry getsa bad name, But the great broad veins which are now being discovered or recertain pened on the Sierras, are full from wall too wall of an ore which, though lean, liable, and of which the yield can be reckoned with approach to certainty, Mining in such localities is a safe, conservative business in which prudent men need not scruple to invest-their money. i polgilbianescen Borxs, abs cesses, tumors, and even cancers, are the result of a natural effort ot the system to expel the papey which the liver and kidneys have failed to remove. Ayer's Sarsaparilla stimulates all the organs to a preper yeeiemuice of their functions. +*eer-_ Second Trial of Witlls and Weber. Sheriff Douglass went to Marysville this morning to attend the second trial of Willis aud Weber, who are accused of robbing the Railroad ticket office at Wheatland some time ago. , On the first trial the jury failed to agree, but it is thought a conviction will be secured at the trial now in progress, as new evidence has been found that is very strong against defendants, is rean + +aee _ Rifle Shooting.
