short time ago for the purpose of investigating the slickens, of which we
an abundant supply in this
vicinity, as to its fitness for the manufacture ef bricks. Experiments with
this substance in the past have resulted in the production of an excellent
quality of fire brick. Should the gen. tleman’s researches be of a satisfactory
nature he will probably establish a
kiln here and enter extensively into
the production of brick. It is said that
‘everything is useful, and nothing was
made in vain.’ If this theory is correct, thank God, we can supply the
world with bricks . ’’
In a collection of articles damayel
by lightning in an electrical exhibition
is the clothing of a man which was
literally torn from his body during a
storm of June 8, 1878. The man, who
was an agricultural laborer, was standing under a tree at the time of tlie oceurrence. The lighting flash, ufter
ripping his smock-frock from end to
end, severed his leathern gaiters, tore
the trousers into shreds, and finally
split up each boot from ankle to tov.
The man was not killed.
A Hampsuire Justice discharged a
housemaid who pleaded guilty to
stealing a cloak, a muff, a fur boa and
a handkerchief belonging to her mistress. The Judge said that she was
only ‘‘wearing” the clothes, and that
was ‘‘a thing servants did every
day. ”
