JOHNSON. What the Record-Union Has to SayAbout Him. On the 4th of March, 1895, Hon. Grove L. Johnson of Sacramento, will take his seat in Congress as the Representative of the Second Congressional District of this State. While. many other subdivisions of the Congressional district which have in our State history embraced Sacramento county have been honored by the selection of Congressmen from their communities, —Sacramento has never been thus favored. It is full time that the Capital county assert its claim to recognition in this respect and press its right after all these years of State history to name one of its citizens to be the next Representative in Congress from this district. Mr. Sargent of Nevada City was thrice elected; Mr. Higby -ef Calaveras was also three times elected Representative; Mr. Page of El Dorado was five times chosen; Mr. Budd to San Joaquin and Mr.Louttit of the same county were each chosen once; Mr. McKenna of Solano was thrice elected; Mr. Caminetti of Amador twice, and Mr. Biggs of Butte once. But the Second District has never selected a Representative from what we may be pardoned as pronouncing the most important county in that political territory. We express the unanimous opinion of the} people of the county that this year Sacra mento’s claims should be recognized. Believing that they will be, and that the successful nominee will hail from this county, we are confident, as we stated at the outset, that on the 4th of March, 1895, Hon. Grove L. Johnson of Sacramento will take his seat The Republican Congressional Convention, Yuba, Nevada, Placer, El Dorado, Amador, Calaveras; Mono, Inyo, ‘Alpine, Tuolumne, Mariposa, San Joaquin and Sacramento, will honor itself, recognize this county and do credit to the State and te the House of Representatives by nominating Mr. Johnson, since such nomination, we believe, will be Fatified by the people of the district at the! polls by an overwhelming majority. ~~~ Sacramento will present the name of Mr. Johnson as its selection; this is conceded, we believe, because it is the expressed desire of the people, who recognize in him all the qualities that should equip a representative in the popular house of the National Legislature. : Committee Meeting. A meeting of the Fourth of July general committee and all members of sub-committees will be held this” evening at 8 o'clock, at the National Exchange Hotel.
