THE DIFFERENCE.
‘That isa curious contrast. which is
jnst now presented by a comparison of
the attitade of the Mexican govern‘ment and its proposed bond issue. and
= of the leaders of the silver cause.
United. States. The latter alpr . professing great admiration for
the Mexican system: of finance, recently
forced through the Senate, where the
silvet’elément is in control, a resolution
declaring the bonds of the United state
payable in silver, while the Mexicaz
government is asking bids for gold
bonds which it proposes to issue.
The difference is simply this: The
. Mexican government recognizes the inevitable as {0 the relations of gold and
silvér and is willing to conform to the
facts. wherever nevessary, while the
silver leaders in the United States who
are in the silver cause merely for “what
there is in it,” either in politics or personal gain, are willing to sieze upon
any opportunity to make momentary
capital for themselves and their cause
without ‘any reference to its effect upo.
the country or its finances.
REALLY UNKIND.
, These heartless exporters aad foreign
‘buyers are evidently determined to detroy the last possible chance of the
free-silver Democrats. They keep o1
pouring the money into coffers of the
farmers of the country in a wai
that must make the heart of the
average Bryanite ache. The January exports of breadstuffs and pro
visions were far in excess in value of
those of January of last year, and fo
the seven months ending with January
were nearly $75,000,000 in excess ot
those of thé corresponding months oi
the preceding year. Nearly every article which the farmer has to sell ix
grains, meats, dairy products, etc., hat
advanced in price, despite the insistence of thé silverites that this could
not happen without the adoption of
their financial proposition.
‘He Has No Taste That Does Not.
There are few men but who appreciate a nice, clean fitting garmsat. Hibbitt, the Artist Cutter and Tailor on

and stylish cut garment every time.

DURATION OF OF HUMAN, LIFE,
Migh Possibly Live to nid A Man t y it © One
Hundred and Twenty-five:
In the average statistica of byjm an life
i¢ has been found that wom, live longer than men, The reason ior /that 2p
pears to be simple.
Up to the age of 20 to 25 ‘the man is
andonbtedly. younger and lesa developed than the woman, but in the next 20
or -80<yéars -of: his -lifethe: man» “Bges”
much more rapidly, because apart from
the strain and hardship of a profession,
‘he exposure to unhealthful climates,
the disappointments of fortuno, he of‘en leads a life of dissipation and ex‘ess which early puts its stamp upon
his forehead and turns his hair gray before its time. The woman, onthe other
hand, who has often: mere: than her
many accidents of life, but. one serious.
and inevitable danger, that of the porpetuation of her race, which, safely
passed, renovates rather. than ages and
increases a » Woman’ 8 chance of _longevity.
From the few facta that I have ventured to put together we ‘may deduce, I
by those who desire. to have a general
length and brevity. .
First.—That, according to the best
authorities “of the last century; the ‘exunder extraordinary and almost since:
mal circumstances.
Second.—That the antici ation of life
is roughly five times the that the
organs of ‘the body—not counting the”
brain, which develops later—1 6 to
attain their full and absolute maturity.
This, of course, varies not only in races;
but in individuals, some developing
early and some much later, even in the
same climate and in the same family.
Third.—That rarely, if ever, is tei
full duration achieved, owing to disdase, food, heredity, _bad’habits, wear
and tear and many other causes Which .
shorten life. fs
. Fifth.—That. all. homan beings are
aot born with the capacity for long life.
3ven under the most le circumstances. As the organism of the: human
being is mcre complex than that of the
lower animals, so his’ anticipatien’ of
life is far more variable: '
which conduce to longevity are un-,
doubtedly late development, frugal habits, moderation, exemption from vicissisold, from mental worry and agitation,
semperature. in eating and drinking,
vith a fair amouné of brain work when,
che Lrain is ready to undertake it. «
‘We have all heard the well worn ax:om attributed to the Psalmist that the
‘days of man are threescore and ten,”
yut in Genesis vi, 3, will be found the
ollowing passage, ‘‘ Yet his days shall
se an hundred and twenty years.’’
fhis passage seems to have been over‘ooked, as I have rarely seen it quoted,.
ulthough curiously enongh: it exactly
sorresponds to the theory that man
should attain five times the period of
teaching his maturity.—Nineteenth
Oentury.
The Dishiguring “Make Up.”
So long as we indulge in the barbarthe points of the face may be needful.
{t is indeed an excellent thing when
deftly done and the material causes of
the effect entirely hidden, as they should
be. The clarity of a whiter tint to the
general tone of the skin, the illumination of eye and teeth by emphasizing
the brow and lashes and lips, the heightaning of the color—all these things can
be so done as to disguise the means by

All these things are perfectly visible
fo a large part of the audienve and are

Jpera glass they are shocking. The objects which ‘are obtained are the gog2ling of the eyes, which can be thrown
