Sue Cue Rearrested.
Deputy Sheriff Pascoe and City Marshal
Getchell this morning rearrested Sue Cue,
the Chinese gambler, ‘on a bench warrant
issued by Justice of the Peace Mulloy.
Sue Cue was convicted of gambling but was
discharged from custody on a writ of habeas
corpus, He was rearrested on the same
offense and locked up‘in jail. This afternoon
: ¥F, T. Nilon, attorney for Sue Cue, made
. application to the Superior Court for another
writ of habeas corpus, Judge Caldwell
granted the writ, returnable tomorrow
morning at 10 o’glock. It seems that the
writ previously issued and under which the
Chinaman was released, was faulty, hence
the bench warrant.

During the éveniig an excellent musical

the Misses Morton and Carl Brand, The vocalists composing the choir are Dr. C. W.

the various selections were all executed with
precision and good taste and were well received by the guests. ‘he choruses by

Prof, Davis was a gem of vocalism and was
highly appreciated as the generous applause

aroused much enthusiasm among the miusic
lovers, The contribution of Miss Mabel
Hughes ‘to the pleasure of the evening,
whicli was an exquisite vocal solo, exhibited
musical talent of a high order, a voice possessing great compass and well trained.
The instrumental contribution by the Misses
Morton and Miss Minnie Brand was expressive of much that is high and lofty in
the musical realm, It further tended to
show the pypularity of these young ladies in
social and musical circles and also their
mastery over the different instruments
which they so cleverly wianipulated. Mr,
Charles Leavett’s guitar solo proved an. acquaintance with that instrument which

HOW IT HAPPENED.
The Fatal Explosion at the Gold
Ridge Mine.
. The accident which happened at the Gold
Ridge mine in the upper part of this county
last Thursday night was a sad: affwir, resulting as it did in the’ death of ond man
and the serious injury of another. Although
it is not positively known how the accident
happened, it is surmised that it occurred.
in. the following manner:
The men had drilled six holes in the tunnel and went_out to.the. storehouse. -to_get
the powder. Some of the holes were wet
holes and it was necessary after putting the
caps on the fuse to cover the™caps with a
waterproof composition in order to protect
them from the water in the holes. This,
composition had become hard and in order
to soften it so that it could be used Dey
held a lighted candle under a piece of the
stuff. While thus engaged the explosion
occurred, It is thought that the candle
flame came in contact with the cap, causing:
it to explode, the concussion immediately
exploding balance of the other caps in
the box on ‘the work bench, and tearing
quite a hole in the bench,
Dey died of his injuries about seven hours
later, after being removed tothe English
Mountain mine. His body was placed in a
box and buried in the snow, where it will
be left until the snow goes off sufficiently
The Gold Ridge mine where the accident
happened is situated in the upper part of
Nevada couuty, near the line Letween Nevada and Sierra counties. Coroner Hocking was notified Saturday of all the facts in
the case, but under the circumstances he
will probably decide not to hold an inquest,
at least not for awhile yet, as it is Very difficult to travel through that section now on
account of the deep snow.
