The Repairs on the Anthony House
Bridge Are Com/leted.
After having been closed for some
two months past, the bridge across
Deer.Creek at the Anthony House,
‘twelve miles below this city, was today
thrown open to travel. Supervisor
Woods and W. J. Organ of this city superintended the work, which has been
# performed im a very thorough and substantial manner. The people living in
that section now have a good, safe
bridge to travel over. + 2.”
Gold Mining in the Philippines.
A miner volunteer writing from Manila says:
“There is lots of free gold in the
streams here,-and the cleanest looking
quartz that I have seen for a long time.
There is also silver and iron and’ gold
and carbide, and the wood can’t be
beat. I would like to go to the hills,
but the insurgents will mot let us boys
pass their lines; they are taking all the
prisoners they can get. Chinamen
cross the lines, however, and they take
calico goods and trade with the natives
for goid. The insurgents are unable to
go up in the hills, for the natives are
them to the wall. With the-soldiers_in
front and the natives in the rear, we
can wind them up in short order, and
when we do, lam going out ‘prospecting.”
