A Few Inducements Which Nevada
County Offers to Settlers.
First—Large areas of fertile lands, secur—
ed by Government patent, can be purchased
at such reasonable tigures that afew hundred

Second—The standard fruits grown in
this county are the finest cf their varieties
grown in the world. They are of a superior flavor and have a firmness of. texture
that gives them better shipping and keeping
qualities than those grown at lower altitudes
and they find a ready market at. remunerative prices. soreness epee
Third—The long summers permit of. the
rotation of crops, and the raising of two and
even three different crops from the same
land in # single season.
Fourth—There is a ready market for all
farm products at good prices.
Fitth=-There are excellent means of trans
portation to the railway penetrating the central portion.of the county. :
Sixth—There is an abundance of timber.
Seventh—There is an inexhaustible supply of pure water, both for irrigating and
domestic purposes.

summer and winter, and is not subject to

mountains, on the east line of the State, . westward a distance of seventy miles to the
Sacramento Valley. Itis from twelve to
twenty miles wide. The altitude is from
two to three thousand feet along its central
portion and less than one thousand feet elevation in the western or valley region. The
line of the-Central Pacific: Railroad.crosses
the eastern boundary, and—traverses the
Southern portion. of the county ~for~many . ’
miles. It then enters Placer county, following close to the southern boundary of Nevada county till near its western limit. . The
Nevada County Narrow Guage Railroad connects with the Central Pacific at Colfax and
extends thence north to the central portion
of the county, passing through Chicago
Park, Grass Valley; and terminating at
Nevada City—twenty-two miles from the
Central Pacific Overland Railroad. The
central portions contain most of the rich
gold mines, -including quartz, hydraulic and
placer mines together with, the upper portion of the Horticultural belt, while the .
western or foothill region consigts exclusive—
ly of agrictltural-and grazing lands. The
horticultural and agricultural section of the
eounty comprises about 250,000 acres of
land, a large per centage of which is adapted to cultivation, The. topograpy of the
county is such as to give-variety to the pro
ducts. We grow successfully in Nevada
county: Oranges, lemons, Citrons, figss,
olives, apricots, plums, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, gooseberries, hazel nuts,
black walnuts, chestnuts, almonds, and
every kind of vegetable grown.
Nevada City is the county seat of Nevada
eounty. There are five daily, one tri-weekly dnd three weekly newspapers published
in the county.

ORDINANCE NO. 104.
An ordinance regulating the vending of
goods on the streets, games, amusements and other things for which a
charge is made, .
The Board of Trustees of the City of Nevada do
ordain as follows:
SECTION I.
It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or
vend any goods, wares or merchandise upon the
public streets of the City of Nevada, or to set up
or use for gain an merry-go-round, strikingmachine, phonograph, game or other thing used
for amusement, pleasure or other purpose for
which a charge is made within the corporate limits of said city without first rocuring a license
therefor, as hereinafter requtred.
Section II,
All persons before engaging in any such’ busihess, amusements or things spoken of in section
1 hereof, snall psy to the City fora license therefor in advance the following sums of money, towit: For merry-gu-rounds, ten dollars per day;
tor vendors of géods, wares or merchandise on
the public streets, five dollars per day or fifteen
dollars per week; for striking-machines five dollars per week or fifteen dollars per month; and
for all other things of amusement spoken ofin
Section 1 hereof, two dollars per day or ten dollars per week.
i SECTION III.
Any person engaging in any of said busine
or doing and the things herein spoken ot
without first procuring the license therefor as
herein requfred, is hereby declared to be gui'ty
of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof,
shall be fined ina sum not less than ten dollars
‘nOr more than one hundred dollars, or shall be
imprisoned in the city prison for a term not exceeding ten days. .
Section IIT.
This ordinance shall take effect and be in
force on and after the 6th day of February, 1894.
