Final Summons.
Abraham Fields Dalton died this morning
at the home of Frank Morris, near the
depot, after a sickness of about two weeks.
Death was the result of jauridice, fever, and}
a general breaki g down of the’ whole sys—
tem, Daltou has lived on Grizzly Ridge,
years or more, being engaged in mining
in that locality. About two wkeks agehe came to this city to be doctored, but
continued to grow worse, his death occurring as above stated.
Deceased was well known in this city,
being a prominent member of Chattanooga
Post,;Grand Army of the Republic, and
Fellows. He was a native of New York,
aged forty-nine years. As faras we know
he had no relatives in this part of the
country, “He lived alone in a cabin on
Grizzly Ridge.
“Abe” Dalton was an old Union soldier,
having joined Company FE of the New York
Volunteers September 2, 1862, and served
two years and ten montbs. He was taken
prisoner and was contined for awhile in the
Andersonville Prison. Dalton became a
member of Chattanooga Post October 9,
1886, and always took great interest in that
organization, coming on foot from his home,
over ten miles from this city, whenever a
meeting was to be held, or a departed comradé was to be buried; or the annua] obser—
vance of Memorial Day was to take place.
This fealty to their society is characteristic
of nearly all Grasd Army men, but by none
is it more strongly exemplitied than’ it was
in the case of the deceased.
Post Commander.
The remains have been removed to the
undertaking parlors. ‘ihe funeral will take
place Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, under the auspices of the above organizations,
with services at Odd Fellows Hall.

The Lamarque.
Tidings: The ¢ncouraging prospects at
this mine are being borne out as develepment work continues. Last week the vein
widened out from ten or twelve inches~to
twenty inches, and the ore holds up in
the North Star. It is bonded by Messrs.
Works. By reason of the late developments
Mr, Thompson has abandoned the idea of
going to Sierra county just at present. The
firm have just about completed chlorination works in the southern part of that
county, and Mr. Maltman is now there.
It was intended that Mr, Thompson should
go up to take charge ofthe plant. But
the Lamarque is opening out so finely that
bis services will be required here. It is
more than likely that the vein-in this mine
will widen as greater depth is attained, If
such proves the case it will become one. of
the notable properties of the district.

HIS STAGE FRIGHT.
The New Czar Acted Like a Booby and
Had to Be Braced and Coached.
The story of the sudden evolution of
an emperor which was brought back to
London by the witnesses of the Russian
pageants of grief and joy is one of the
strangest in the personal histories: of
. great rulers, The members of the British court and the English correspondents
who followed the funeral party from
Livadia to St. Petersburg saw and heard
some interesting things which it was
not possible to describe in the dispatches
which-were-sent-home——
It is learned that for several days
after the death of Alexander III the
members of the Russian court were reduced to despair and distraction by the
behavior of the young czar. He was
completely unnerved, not so much by
grief at his father’s death as by his sudden encounter with the vast responsibilidays.a shrinking, cowering weakling. It
was almost impossible to coax or spur
him into the exercise of any of his imperial functions, Those whose duty it
was to prompt him regarding the proper
state and other formalities were at their
wits’ end, and the situation caused the
greatest alarm inthe court. When sonie
simple course was urged upon him, the
young emperor shrank back and begged
that he be let alone. He even whimpered
when the necessity.of action was pressed
upon him as imperative. He more than
once burst’ into tearsand aoted more
like a terrified child than the ruler of
an empire.
This continued for seveal days after
the arrival of the Prince of Wales, and
it was to him that the officials of th:
Russian court finally appealed. The
-rince was equal to the occasion, and in
he last three weeks he has done mor
for England than the whole British for
ign officé would be able to accomplish
nh @ generation, He remained constant
'y by the young emperor's side. He put
heart and couragé into him. Bofore the
azar reached St. Petersburg he was
‘ransforined. Ho not only became a man,
ut began to acquire some, of the dignity
f his rank. He soon astonished his ad
