Since the great scattering of that race St
Patrick’s Day has become almost a worldwide celebration, and nowhere is its observance more general than inthis great, generous, glorious and free America, The

feelings with which its annual recurrénce

Nearly every nation sets apart some day
in the year as its national holiday —like our
own Fourth of July—but the motives on
which the day is chosen, aud the very-day
itself, are constantly changing.The old
national saints days were once especially
honored in many countries. St.
Day in England, St. Andrews’ Day w
Wales, and many more have almost passed
out of memory in the countries which once
célebrated them. The Fall of the Bastile,
the annivérsary of Tedan, and the Queen’s
Birthday now do duty as the national holidays of France, Germany and England, but
it needs no prophet to foretell that all three
are essentially temporary in their nature,

higher than: the surrounding buildings,
which is not the case at present. A cement
floor will take the place of the wooden one
down stairs, while upstairs the° walls and
ceilings will be nicely papered and all woodwork repainted p throughout the building.
The exterior of the building will also be repainted and when everything is done the
fire boys of No. 1 will have as neat and as
cosey a meeting place as there is in the
county. Work on the proposed changes
will begin next week.
George's Cutting Down Fruit Trees.
Postmaster Galkins is having all the old
fruit trees in his residence lot cut-down and
intends having shade and ornamental trees‘
planted. He has come to the conclusion
that it is‘about as cheap to buy fruit from
some one who makes a business of raising it
as-it is to pay for pruning, spraying, etc.,
and then probably get a small crop of
fruit or none at all, There are others who

“One of the most enterprising and sunecessful business firms in Roslyn is that of
Messrs. Carolla & Genasci. Mr. Genasci
is a native of California, having been born
and raised at Nevada City. He is. well
educated, a member of the city council and
is a safe, conservative business man.”
‘John Corgiat while really a resident of
San Jose, Cal., is essentially a citizen of
Roslyn by reason of his.long residence here
and his extensive property interests, His
tirst business venture in Washington was
in conducting a restaurant in Seattle, and
it was during this time that he married Miss
Carrie Genasci in Nevada City, Cal., in
1889. In 1890 he came to Roslyn and his
financial success is well known to our citizens. He has been a member of the city
council and was always. an active and
public-spirited man. Mr. Corgiat moved
his family te California last June, where he

Mrs, Hartley is enjoying life, in the mecntime, and is receiving daily calls fom eminently proper ladies, and flowers and favors
