A TEAMSTER ROBBED.
ft tio Masked Hignwaymon Hold Bim Db
‘Near Colfax.
On last Tuesday afternoon two masked highwaymen stopped‘a teamster on
the road-between Iowa Hill'and Colfax,
in Placer county. The teamster is employed by the Urser-Major Supply
Company at Iowa Hill.
The robbers, who were armed with
rifles and who wore masks made of red
bandana handkerchiefs, secured $48
from the teamster, $40 of it being the
teamster’s own money, representing «
month’s wages.
It is believed that the robbers intended tohold up the stage running
between Iowa Hill and Colfax, and
which brought down considerable treasure from the former place on Tuesday.
The treasure was so valuable that a
shotgun messenger was sent along to
guard it, and the probabilities are that
when the robbers saw him sitting on
the box with his sawed-off shotgun,
ready for business, they got cold feet
and turned their attention to the unarmed teamster.
Sheriff Conroy and some of his deputies are out scouting through. the
moun hunting for the robbers.
