“Every Cuban must have his helper,” says an army officer who has
been serving in the island. “You
cannot hire a ter for an-hour
unless you Prager him with a helper to hand his hammer and nails and
talk to him. In sawing the carpenter reverses the motion used by the
American carpenters. Collars on
ing a boat the oarsman pushes instead of pulls the oars.
“There are many other habits
which strike Americans as equally
strange. It is a popular misconception that people in the tropics cannot-eat meat. All who can afford it
buy meat. But only the favored few
can afford it. The chief subsistence
of the natives is the sweet potato,
which is rank in its owe Meat
costs 25 cents a pound, and, strange;
as it may seem, Cuban butchers
charge the same for neck or hock
that they do for tenderloin. Meat is
meat to them.”
The Yellowstone Geysers.
Edwin Hinckley Barbour, professor of geology in the University
of Nebraska, thinks the geysers in
Yellowstone park are disappearing.
“The rapid decline of the geyser
phenomena in the Yellowstone National park,” he says, “seems to be
but little understood, but to those
who will visit the spot frequently
the changes seem startling and to
the geologist alarmingly rapid. If
one may judge from impressions, it
seems safe to assume that if the decline in geyser activity noted during
the last four years should continue
for the coming eight or ten years
the feattres which most impress
the geologist will have disappeared.
As a warning, every geologist who
intends visiting the park should not
vostpone the trip a year, but should
visit it at once.”
The Vice of Nagging.
Clouds the happiness of the home,
but a nagging woman often needs help.
She may be so nervous and run-down
in health that trifles annoy her. If she
is melancholy, excitable, troubled with
loss of appetite, headache, sleeplesshess, constipation or fainting and
dizzy spells, she needs Electric Bitters,
the most wonderful remedy for ailing
women. Thousands of sufferers from
female troubles, nervous troubles
backache and weak kidneys have used
it, and become healthy and happy.

position where a false step meant a
