J., March 17—An attempt was made to.kill the Rev. Mr. Houst; pastor of the German Lutheran Church ef this place, last night. On November 27th last his son mysteriously disappeared, and the minister subsequently received threatening letters, in which it was said that the boy was in hell and that the. father also would be sent there. Some weeks ago hie little daughter was met on the street by a young man, who tried to entice her into a house, but she began to cry, attracting the attention of passersby, and the man took fright and harried away. Last night Mr. Houst heard steps on the porch of his home and he went out to investigate.
