BarRNsTABLE, March 19.—This was the
date set by Judge Higgins on December 31, last, for the’ first electrocution . Tunnel Company’s application for a
franchise to construct an underground in this state, the victim being Edwin
R. Snow, aged 17, who pleaded guilty
to the murder of James I. Whittmore.
Sentence was commuted.

THE COE MINE.
Develop the Old Mine.
The Union reporter has been interviewing the Superintendent of the Coe
mine and obtains the following information:
The Coe mine, on the Nevada City
and Grass Valley road, will soon havea
twenty-stamp mill, the lumber for
which is being hauled to the mine.
The mill. building will be constructed
by William S. May and he will commene its erection in a few days. The
Union Iron Works of San Francisco
will furnish the stamps and concentrators. The corcentrators to be used
four of which are now in use at the
North Star mill. Electric power will
be installed to run the mill. Superintendent O. A. Turner is vow paving
the shaft and drifts of the mine repaired and there is about 100,000 tons
road Co, and is located at Colfax for a. feet long, 56 feet wide and 55 feet high.

Friday For the Russian Gold Mines,
F. A. Gourley returned to his home
here on Sunday morning and left this
morning for San Francisco. On Friday he will leave that place on the

nothing unforeseen occurs he expects
to reach his place of destination on the

wide and twenty-four miles long, and

be a great money-making proposition
