OUR SRCTION. A Few inducements Which Nevada County Offers to Settlers. First—Large areas of fertile lands, secured by Government patent, can be purchased at such reasonable figures:that afew hundred dollars is sufficint to_pay for a small farm. Second—The standard fruits grown in this county are the finest cf their varieties grown in the world. They are of a superior flavor and have a firmness of texture \ that gives them better shipping and keeping : qualities than those grown at lower altitudes and they find a ready market at remunerative prices. 3 ““Third—The long summers permit of the rotation of crops, and the raising of two and even three different crops from the same land in a single season. { spec" Balding nent to Hemessy's Stable portation to the railway penetrating the central portion of the county. Sixth—There is an abundance of timber. Seventh—There is an inexhaustible supply of pure water, both for irrigating and domestic purposes. ; Eighth—The temperature is mild, both in summer-end-winter, and is not subject to ‘wadden changes. Ninth—The elimate will compare favorably with that of any other sectidn of: the Pacific Coast, even with the most favored, there being no malaria with its resulting ehills and fever, no violent winds, no fogs, mor floods.’ : _ Tenth—The children reared in this climate and at this altitude above the sea usually aequire better. physical _coustitutions, with more plumpness and firmness of museular developmeut.as well as color and vitality of the blood’ than those reared in the valley or even coast counties. With this brief statement of facts, however, let it ba understood that we do not; élaim for Nevada county that it is a paradise on earth, nor even the popular romance of sub-tropical glories. Nevada.county lies a little north of ‘the eentral ling of California, and contains a population ef about 25,000. It extends from the summit of the Sierra Nevada mountains, on the east line of the State, westward a distance of seventy miles to the Sacramento Valley. It is from twelve to twenty miles wide. The altitude is from two to three thousand feet along its central} . portion and less than one thoneand feet elevation in the western or valley region. The line of the Central Pacific Railroad crosses the easteri boundary, and traverses. the} southern portion of the county for many miles. It then enters Placer c »unty, following close to the southern boundary of Neva~ da county till near its western limit. The Nevada County Narrow Guage Railroad connects with the Central Pacific at Colfax and extends thence north to the central portion } of the county, passing through Chicago Park, Grass Valley, and terminating at Nevada City—twenty-two miles from the Central Pacific Overland Railroad. The central portions contain most of the rich gold mines, including quartz, hydraulic and . \ placer mines together with, the upper portion of the Horticultural belt, -while the western or foothill region consists exclusive ly of agricultural and grazing lands.
