Society Organized. : ee Last evening twenty-five members of the Grass Valley Christian Endeavor Society came up to assist in the organization of a society of that character in the Congrega tional Church here. The Christian Endeavor Suciety has» been in existence about fourteen years in. the United States and numbers today over two million members. Great success is predicted for.the.societyin this place. The mountain cat recently purchased by W. H. Smith and turned loose in the storehouse back of his store, is proving to be a great rat catcher. The trials of the. Grass Valley merchants, arrested for obstructing sidewalks have not been set yet. Separate trials have been demanded. Two men stole a horse and cart from a barn near Lathrop Sunday night ‘and decamped.
