Robert Fothergill, a highly esteemed young man of Hobart Mills, died there at . four 6’clock yesterday morning. He bad been snffering for four or five days with tonsilitis and it was thought that he was getting along very well, Hie throat bad gathered and broke, and he was strangled to death in about five minutes. His death cast a gloom over the entire place, He was only twenty-two years of age and pos@essed those pleasant qualities and manly virtues that had greatly endeared him to all. The remains were brought to Truckee yesterday morning and shipped to Oarson for. burial. Superintendent Oliver,.as a mark of respect, closed down the factory and the numerous friends of the deceased left their work, and clad in their working clothes, repaired to the residence of Mr. Rowe and paid their last tribute to one whose-honor and integrity had won their lasting friendship. Messrs, Late developments in the Gibsonville. Ridge have been of ‘great. importance to the mining intereate of Northern Sierra and proves that the main old Blue Lead gravel channel yet remains in this ridge. This section of Sierra county has long béen noted for its rich}. placer and drift mines, but the existence of a main channel in the ridge has been a question of doubt. The Tabor mine at Gibsonville has broken and found that the ridge contains one of the largest-bodies of blue gravel ever opened in Sierra county, This mine was started by’ Horace Tabor over thirty years ago and after his death, two years ago, the property passed into the hands of A. I, Eaton of San Jose, Cal., who organized a new company and ‘etarted the main tunnel ahead and opened up a body: of gravel that no doubts can be raised as to the old]. channel being in the ridge and will be the means of opening up this ridge with tunnels from Gibsonville on the south to Pilot Peak on the north, The Thistle Shaft, O. B. Wingate, manager; August Hottz, superintendent, wae the first company to work successfully the great deposit of gravel. After working sevéral years the water increased to such an extent that they ‘ébatdoned the shaft and started the present Bellevue tunnel)’ This tunnel has now passed the five thousand foot mark and will svon strike gravel. This tunnel will not only drain their. through rim at a distance of 4,600 feet now, after two'years steady work, has : iaiien Wsities returned pies morning from San Francisco.: pt Superintendent W.
