land, in the Grass Valley district. In
this property three mining companies
have worked one continuous ore chute
to a\depth of 2200 feet, a distance of
6000 feet, and -have produced nearly
$20,000,000, of which more than: onehalf was paid in dividends, It is still
and ‘promises to continue to be a producer, The Empire, also in Grass Valley,;has probably been worked the
most ‘gontingously of.-any similar
. mine in the State. Other mines: have
stopped and started, but the Empire
has . kept. on for forty-eight ‘years.
It has produced over $7,000,000, and is
now being worked at. a depth of 2400
feet onthe ingline. Like.the Empire
the North Star, another famous Grass
Valley mine, keeps a 40-stamp mill .in:
constant operation, is ‘being worked at
‘e depth of 2400 feet on the incline, and
has a gold bullion production record
-ofabout $6,000,000: At ‘present in
Grass Valley district about 880 stamps
are dropping, and in the Nevada City
district 330.
“Abandoned” mines are proving their .
worth. The Reward; near Nevada City, .
is a good example. After years of idleness a Gom. some ‘time ago took
the property, drained it, started development, fae month cleaned up $6000
and have begun to pay dividends. The
Texas and Bellefontaine are also examples of. . bandoned” mines, now
working. The. lvania-mine ‘at
aie Valley is producing ‘an average
of $6000 in gold every month. This
property is an apt illustration of what
local: enterprise has accomplished in
Nevada couttty mining. The stock is
> \}pearly all in smalt holdings. Three
‘times had the property been closed
down. A last effort among the ‘stook‘holders to push to depth rewarded them
}on the 800 level. ‘The ore body is fair
size and high grade. The mine ‘has
paid 5 cents per share every month for} W'
