Since the ‘beginning of the Stockton asylum there have been about 15,000 crazy people coafined there, of which about 6,000 were native born and 9,000 foreign born, of which about 11,300 were males and 8,700 were females, About 0.6-third of those sent to the asylum recover. More people become insane between 30 and 35 years than at any other age.» Between 25 und 20 is the next worse insane period. Five times more common laborers become insane than of any other occupation. “Farmers come next. Two in three hundred are attorneys, while only one in five hundred are editors. Twenty times as many people become insane rom personaly excess and abuse as overwork and business trials. In the past year 305 were admitted to this asylum.
