While Louis Matildo was working in the Malakoff mine at North Bloomfield Tuesday night, a large boulder fell from above and struck him on the leg, breaking it below the knee. He was taken to his home and Dr. Du Melieu summoned. John H. Polkinghorn is suffering from a bad cut on the wrist. He had pulled out a piece of loose rock at the Mountaineer mine and it broke in his hand, a rugged piece striking his wrist. It was necessary to take several stitches to close up the wound. H. Shafer, aged 73 years, a native of Germany, died yesterday afternoon at the County Hospital from paralysis. He had lived at the hospital for several years and leaves no relatives. The bond of George H. Fletcher, as administrator of the estate of George Fletcher, his deceased father, was approved yesterday by the ‘Superior Court. The amount of the bond is $10_000 and Mrs. Beldon, of San Jose, and Mrs. George Fletcher are the sureties. C. L. Van Voast, who has been the ‘ manager of the Great American Tea Company’s store at this city for the past two years, will leave Tuesday to take a like position in the company’s store at Obico. San Francisco parties have secured an option on the Boss mine, near Sweetland and work of pumping it out will soon be commenced. A crosseut will be run from the bottom of the shaft and the ledge prospected to some pxtent, greater prosperity for the Nevada City mining district. The Robbers Arrested. Newark, Ohio, March 27—Four men were arrested at Thorneville at’ noon today on suspicion of being the men who burglarized: the Somerset Bank hearly yesterday morning. Two of the men carried shotguns, The pocketbook of another contained a piece of fuse. Files, drills and chisels were found on the persons of the prisoners, who refuse to give account of themselves. They have been placed in jail. Cape Nome Beach. The first indications of gold near the beach were found in January, 1898, by Kjellmann and Spring.
