THE NEW ANT-AMARCHST Bi
TO ROTECT THE DRESDEN
T is enough to make the blush of shame mantle the cheek}
of every trne and law-abiding citizen of the United States
to realize the fact that in this great Republic of ours to
which Americans often and justly refer to with pride it is
necessary to take the precaution to have the Chief Executive
of the nation protected from the murderous designs of
anarchists through the means of employing private detectives
to shadow him and by passing stringent laws in Congress
for the protection of the President and the swift punishment
of all red-shirted villains who become so steeped in the damnable teachings of anarchy as to attempt to carry out the
designs against that magistrate which they constantly carry
in their hearts. But it is so, nevertheless, and these precautions will always be imperative as long as an anarchist remains in this free country and these ugly customers are al
lowed to land here from foreign ports with the riff-raff-of
Europe, although we may regret to admit the fact.
Several bills have been under consideration by both
Senate and House comunittees of Congress for the protection
of the President ever since the asassination of President
McKinley. Different bills passed both Houses in the 58th
Congress, but the two Houses could come to no agreement.
The Senate Committee on Judiciary has just ordered a favorable report on a new bill. The bill as reported follows:
“Section 1.—That any person who shall, within the limits of the United States or any place subject to the jurisdic—
tion thereof, willfully and maliciously kill or cause the death
of the President or Vice President of the United States or any
officer thereof, upon whom the power and duties of the President have devolved by the constitution shall suffer death.”
“Section 2.—That any person who shall within the limits
of the United States or any place subject to the jurisdiction
thereof, willfully and maliciously kill or cause the death of
any officer of the United States entitled under the constitd—

ENTERED INTO REST
Mrs. R.M. Hunt,a Pioneer
Resident, Passes Peacefolly From Earth’s
Trials.
Aftera long and serious illness of
several months and a period of unconsciousness lasting four days, Mrs.
R. M. Hunt, one of Nevada City’s most
beloved and esteemed pioneer residents, breathed her last about eleven
o’clock last night, and her soul passed
peacefally into the Great Beyond to
receive its final reward. Death reeases incident to old age and a general breaking down of the system.
Her husband, R. M. Hunt, passed
away about one year ago, and thie
great sorrow and affliction weighed
heavily on her, and, it is thought,
assisted ina great meaéure in hastening her demise.
Mrs. Hunt was one of our best
known residenta, having come to this
city ip the year of 1852, where ehe was
married tothe late Dr. R. M. Hunt.
She was koown as a woman whose
cherity was unostentatious and anlimited to the deserving, and ber good
influeice and deeds were munificently
and constantly exerted in the causes
she loved and espoused. She was an
ardent worker and liberal supporter
of Trinity Episcopal church of this
city, and in the Guild organization
(an adjunct of the church) were found
many of ber most intimate and nearest
friends, who will greatly mise her
loyal and ever willing aid, her friendship and Christian companionship.
Her most intimate and valued friends
here are fonnd among the pioneer settlers of this city and county, who
realized and greatly prized her true
and unswerving friendship and esteem. She was alwaysthe same Mrs,
Dr. Hunt tothem on any and every
occasion, and there is none perhaps
who will more deeply deplore the passing of this noble woman tban the pioneers of Nevada county, Although
she had always been favored during
her married life with an abundance uf
this world’s blessings, still, like all
mortals, she bad many trials and mental worriments to contend with, but
she always bcre these with the patience,
fortitude and calm resignation of a
tras Christian, and through every
dark cloud of her life the sunbeams of
faith, hope and love shone through
and illumined her nath_lahew'-~
The funeral will take place tomorrow
afternoon at two o’clock from ber late
residence, under the auspices of Evangeline Chapter No. 9, O. E. 8., of acter, or because of his official acts or omissions, or who, by
so killing such official, shall cause such a vacancy in the
office by him held at a time when by the constitntion and laws
of the United States it would be the duty of the person holding such office to act as President, shall suffer death,
. “Section 3.—That any person who shall, within the limits
of the United States or any place subject to the jurisdiction
thereof, wilfully and malicionsly kill any ambassador or
minister of a former state or country accredited to the United
States and being within such limits and while engaged in
the performance of his official duties or because of his official
character, or because of any of

The Kind You Have Always Bought
TRUCKEE Dolnes,
A Bloody Crime Committed---Other Interesting Matters,
Blood flowed freely in the streets of
Truckee at about 1 o’clock Saturday
morning. One man is dying and two
others are in jail and will be charged
with murder when death relieves their
victim of his suffering. The men are
Mexicans and had teen employed on
the railroad a short time, Robbery
was the motive for the deed. They
bad been drinking freely and were inclined to quarrel. Shortly before the
affray they were in a dance hall on
Jibboom street, where the assaulted
20-dollar piece, the
other two witnessing the transaction.
Leaving the hall the three started
across the street and began a row on
the way, and an officer admonished
the trio to-behave themselves and then
continued on his rounds. At the back
entrance of a saloon two of the men
bad pounced apon the one who had
the money. A knife was used and an
ugly gash which cut into the left ear,
down the side of the face and severed
the jugular vein in the neck is the
grewaeome evidence of the knife-wielder’s expert use of the knife. The perpetrators ,of the sanguinary deed attempted to escape, but were later captured and lodged in jail. ‘The younger
of the two, a mere lad, ls supposed to
have done the slashing. Acard found
in the clothing of the injured man
gives the name as Gallendo. He is
anconscious and it is thought that he
will die without regaining his senses,
Sunday, April 3d, the Southern Paeific Company will run a Special excursion train from Reno to Trackee
for the benefit of those who wish to
spend the day in the mountains and
enjoy the pleasures afforded by snow
end foe. The train will leave Reno at
7:20. m. and will pick up passengers
at way-stations, arriving here by 9
o’clock. Returning it will leave Truckee at 5 o'clock p.m, The excursion
is to be thoroughly advertised in Reno
and vicinity and the business men of
Truckee will be requested to furnish
entertainment for the visitors. Division freight and passenger agent
John M. Fulton of Reno suggests that
horse racing, ball game, foot racing
or something of the kind be provided
for amusement. lt is out of the question to think of any of these sports,
Toboggan slides, snowshoes and
sleighs will be more adapted to the
conditions. ang there rab paps, *Npedial Dispatches to Transcript
