appears to be good authority, that a sale of
the Murchie. mine property, of about -400
acres of patented ground; is: about consummated. It is said that a company, composed
entirely of Scotchmen are'to be the new
owners. We hope the rumor is true, as it
will be the means of giving employment to
many idle men in this tis vicinity.

HYDRAULIC MINING.
New Controversy, Opened Up in Relation to the Caminetti Act.
. 84y Francisco, Murch 27.—The efforts
of the officers of the Anti-Debris Association
to secure the arrest of men who are violating
the Caminetti law, which was made a few
daya ago, has opened up another controversy
between that association and mining men. of
the State. Thegniners ingist that the Commissoners appdifited by the President under
the provisions ofthe law are sole judges as
to whether any gamage is-done to navigable
streams by hydraulic mining, and the prose”
cutions should:mebtebe begun until the alleged
violations aredpyestigated by the Com“. missioner aud they have recommended that
such action be taken. —The —“people insist that it'is not the duty of the Commissioners to make such investigations, and
the people of the,State should not be bound
by the opinion#@f*the Commissioners ; that,
in cases. where streams are“being: filled up:
any citizeni“whose property is in’ danger, of
injury by such‘ebstructions should have the
right to go to the-United States Courts and
secure the punishment of those who are violating the law.
and the Debris Commissioners are not very
dally understand its provistitude.of the Anti-Debris Association, however, has miade it necessary for
some understanding to be reached, and the
authorities at Wasbington will at onge be
called upon totefthe just what authority the
Commissioners have, and what duties are
obligatory upon them. Those who believe
thatall matters connected with hydraulic
mining and navigable.streams should be
passed upon by thé Commissioners before
legal action is taken, base their opinion
upon a section of the Caminetti law.
At the nt time the Anti-Debris. Assoentire ia gngble o-necare the.proseoution of
in violating .
oa rhia Debris, Commission will not act
until complaints are made _to it, and not in
that event until: further instructions are received from Washington,
At a meeting of the commission permits
for hydraulic mining were issued to the following persons : Daniel W. Albert for the
Ustion mine'and W. W. Lemmon for the
Qopduit. Ravine. mips, Both mines are
located near Brownsville, Yuba county. A

Mrs. Palmer, the sick woman who gave
such damaging testimony against Heath
and Terry in the McWhirter marder trial
at Fresno the other day, told, among other
things; that her firmer husband, from
whom she was divorced, was named E. J,
‘Boland, a newspaper man; that on the
night of the murder she brought him to
town in a phaeton from her ranch near
Fresno, 60 that he could take the train.
They had agreed to separate and this was
‘the last she saw of him. Last September a
man named Boland, a job printer by trade,
arrived in this city in search of employment, .
ing in town about::two'months. He will
be remembered by many of our citizens.” To
several persons he mentioned that he formerly,
owned a ranch near Fresno, but that he and
his wife could not agree and so they parted,
she retaining the ranch and he leaving for
pastures hew.

Deafness Cannot be Cured
By local applications .as—they. cannot
reach the diséased portion of the_ear. There . ’
is only one way to cure deafness, and that
is by constitutional remedies. Deafness is
caused by an inflamed condition of the
mucous lining of the Eustachian Tube.
When this tube is inflamed you have a
‘rambling sound or. imperfect hearing, and
when it is entirely closed, Deafness is ‘the
result, and unless the inflammation,,can be
taken out and this tube restored to its
normal condition, hearing will be destroyed
forever ; nine cases out of ten are caused by
catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed
condition of the mucous surfaces,
We will give: One Hundred. Dellara: fer
any case of Deafness (caused by catarrh)
that cannot be cured by Hall's Oatarrh
