He is blind now, and ‘very old, but he
can bear well and can still drum gloriously.” The next night the old > man
was brought in from his farm and ‘attended the performance. He was im-. mensely pleased and was introduced
to the drummer boy of Shiloh. On
the following day the two bad their pictures taken together with their drums
and drumsticks in position, and while
they were still together a lad was
brought in who had just returned from
Santiago, suffering with wounds received there, was oply 15 years of age,
but being large of his age, had slipped
by the mustering officer’ and gone to
the front. The three then had their
pictures made together, thus showing
three generations of American history
in war, and what was still more remarkable was the fact that they represented
the three youngest soldiers of three
wars, and were. all “Badger Boys” from

Cuicaco, March 2.—A great strike,
one of the largest in the history of
labor unions, is the result of a war
between the International Association
of Machinists and the Chicago Association of Manufacturers. The strike
is the result of a failure to reach an
aggreement last night in a conference held between the representatives of the two bodies of the executive
committee in relation to the machinIsts’
strike in Chicago.
Every union man in this city will
walk out tonight. It is the general belief that this will bea life and death
struggle forthe union, and the members are determined not to give in.
The strike will extend to the metalworking organizations throughout the
country and the scope of its magnituce
may be realized when it is known that
the trouble will involve the employment of at least haifa million men.
