Cuicaco, March 2.—A great strike, one of the largest in the history of labor unions, is the result of a war between the International Association of Machinists and the Chicago Association of Manufacturers. The strike is the result of a failure to reach an aggreement last night in a conference held between the representatives of the two bodies of the executive committee in relation to the machinIsts’ strike in Chicago. Every union man in this city will walk out tonight. It is the general belief that this will bea life and death struggle forthe union, and the members are determined not to give in. The strike will extend to the metalworking organizations throughout the country and the scope of its magnituce may be realized when it is known that the trouble will involve the employment of at least haifa million men.
