High Water Along the
Railroads in the
Valleys.
Railroad traffic was eletaalty brought
to a standstill yesterday in parts of
the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys, On the Port Costa route no
trains went through on Saturday, while at Tracy on the Stockton
division some twelve trains were tied
up. The local between San Francisco and Sacramento reached a point
this side of Davisville last Saturday
and “got’ stalled.” It was a donbleheader and the engineers thought that
they could run through, but the water
put out the fires in the locomotives.
The train was due at Sacramento at
seven o’clock, but it did not reach
there until midnight. Train No. 6
on the Stockten route which was due
at Sacramento at ten o'clock last
night did not get in until 4:35 this.
morning. It was the first train to
arrive after the regular two o’clock
mail train on Saturday afternoon. At
Benecia the water was up to the steps
of. the cars.:
The Sacramento river was higher yesterday evening than it has been for
years, During the night it kept rising, and this morning the mark was
‘still going up. The switch yard at
Sacramento is partly under water, and
a long stretch of track this side of
there is in the same condition.
Train No. 3. west bound, which was
due at Colfax at 1:30 o’clock this
morning came in six hours late. The
delay was caused by a landslide near
Truckee, All trains on that division
were reported from five to six hours
late this morning.
Yesterday’s early-morning train on
the Narrow Gange was delayed two
hours near Bear river on account of a
landslide and a tree across the track.
On its return trip it did not reach this
city until 11:15 in the forenoon.
