Meln’s Household Shoots Herself, Effie Nottingham, a domestic in the. employ of Captain Thomas. Mein, who lives at Jackson and Lake streets, in Oakland shot herself through the heart early Tuesday evening. She had been suffering with melancholia, due to nervous prostration. Her fellow-servants called the attention ofthe family to the young woman’s despondency, and she was given « a month’s leave of absence. The girl had hoped to go abroad with Captain and Mrs. Mein, but they would not take her, insisting that she needed rest and a chance to recuperate. This depressed her still further, but she resolved to visit friends in Oakland for a few days and then go to the country. She packed her satchel] Tuesday afternoon and‘left it at the home of Captain Samuel Mitchell of the Police Department. Her mother was with her when she called at the Mitchell home, but left. on an early train for Walnut Creek. At 6:30 o’clock the young woman ran to her room, on the third floor of the Mein home, secured a revolver, steppedinto a hallway and fired a shot into her heart. She died soon afterward. ‘No Missfits, When we take a measure for a suit of clothes we gurantee an exact fit or no sale. 1000 samples to select from. At the Popular Clothing Store. m30-4t J. Levy.
