A Supposed Stuice Robber. The Chinaman Ah Jack, who was shot at Quaker Hill yesterdy morning, will most likely recover, as his injuries are not very serious, , He received a portion of a charge of shot in the neck and side of his face, . It is believed by some that he was peppered while attempting to rob sluices, as there’are no powder marke about the wound, which would be the case had he been shot at close range either accidentally or intentionally. _ John Sherman, who went after the injured Mongolian with a sleigh, brought him to town last evening and took him to Chinatown, where his friends have taken charge of him, May Have to Surrender. The Board of Location of the N. G. C. recently referred the matter of organization of independent military companies on partial appropriation to the Adjutant General. That officer has reported adversely against the petition of proposed independent companies, It is thought that Cempany H of Grass Valley will be obliged to surrender its arms and equipments to the State, although Captain Riley is still hopeful that Grass Valley will have a military company. Not long ago he got into some trouble in New Jersey, and a warrant was issued for his arrest, but it is said that the case was settled, He returned to Newburgh on Saturday night, and a short time thereafter shot himself. AT LEAST FOUR LIYES LOST, Urtea, N. Y., March 3.—The Genessee apartment house in this city was. burned this morning. It was seven stories high and. contained 250 inmates. Alexander Haven died at Glen brook early this morning, from pneumonia, after asickness of two days.
