John Mosby, for many years a resident ef North San Juan, died at the County Hospital this morning, aged sixty-seven years. ae i Next Thursday will be the last day for Chinamen to register. We understand there are quite a number hereabouts who “have not complied with the law. The first day of May has not been as bright and balmy as usual, and the outlook for picnics is not very favorable. Weather sharps say we will have more rain soon. The granite curbing in front of the Bennallack building, at the corner of Pine and Commercial streets, was laid too low, and is not on the right grade with the rest of the street. Unless it is raised the new concrete sidewalk now being put down will have a very decided slope from the street to the building on the Pine-street side. ae Another Company Store. W. H. Turner, who keeps a variety store on Main street, Grass Valley, has been notified to vacate the place, and it is understood that it is to be fitted up in fine style . for a company store, by S. P. Dorsey, the _ This will be the second store of that kind in the town. Nevada City can boast of not having a@ company store in the town, and all” niners are privileged to buy of whom they please without jeopardizing their situations. -WEATHER BULLETIN: . ~~ Storm Waves—One_ of Considerable Force Expected. " bulletin gave forécasts of the storm~ wave te cross the continent from April 28th to the 2d, and from May 3d to 7th, and the next will reach the Pacific Coast about May 8th, cross the western mountains by the close of. the 9th, the great central valleys from the 10th to the,12th, the Eastern States about the 13th. Electric storms will be more numerous accompanying this disturbance than usual especially in and west of the great central valleys, and the warm wave preceeding will go to extreme heat. This storm should be carefully watched, as it will probably develop considerable force. The warm wave will cross the western mountains about the 8th, and the great central valleys about the 10th, and the Eastern Siates about the 12th. The cool’ waves will cross the per mountains about the 11th and the great central valleys about the 13th, the Eastern States about the 15th. DEDMAN’S FLAT. Mining Active in the Vicinity of That Camp. The Tidings correspondent, writing from Deadman’s Flat Saturday says : At the Evening Star mine the water has not yet been pumped out of the lower levels, but Supt. Peet expects to have all clear by Wednesday next. The new shaft is the best ‘oa the flat and is now down forty feet, At the Normandy sinking is continued and the shaft is now dowh seventy-five feet. They are still taking out fine rock. At the Steep Hill mine the owners are cleaning up. They found some fine rock last week. Mr. Bruce of the Rusty Padlock is still in Sacramento purchasing machinery. Mr. Attwood and partner are sinking a ghaft on the side of the hill just in front of the office at the California mine. They are down twenty-five feet and have struck a god-leoking stringer. The Picayune gravel claim is being worked by Mr, Torpie, Chas. Cross and the Grant Bros., who have done a great deal of dead work ahd have just got into the gravel, which will yield ahout $10 to the car. H. Simer insured for $4, 000; “Smith & Sauna lumber yard, loss $4,000, insured for $2,000;, National Ice Co., loss $7,500, insured for $4,500; Mason, Kidder & Co., loss $4,000, no insurance; E. W. Black, loss $600, insurance $400. The Railroad Company lost the depot, sectien house, four freight cars and other property, the aggregate value of which was about $8,000. The telegraph and railroad effice are now located in a caboose car on a spur. track. 8. H.
