' Morgan. Killed By a Prisoner. CuIcaco, May 9—Private Cumber lidge, while on sentry duty at Fort: Sheridan, last night, was kil‘ed by Smith Wheeler, a prisoner ia the guard house. Wheeler crept up behind Cum berlidge and snatched the centinel’s Trifle. In the scuffle that followed Cumberlidge was clubbed to death with the rifle. Wheeler escaped. Wheeler deserted during the war while in Fiorida awaiting transportation to Cuba. He was serving a five-year sentence. Action Condemned.
