SAN FRANCISCO WATER.
A Grass Valley Man Explains to. the
San Francisco Supervisors.
“The Board of Supervisors of San Francisco, have determined te own their own water
works. They met to consider four propositions for putting in water. Among them
being. one from the Spring Valley Water
company. Mr. Taylor submitted the follow~~ ing to the Board:
I send the following in regard to my water
supply:
The location, Nevada county, California;
altitutie, 720 feet; sources, the snows upon .
the Sierra Nevada Mountains; the extent of
drainage area, 700 square miles. The average flow & water, one thousand million gallons daily. The medium, the latter part of
June, six hundred millions gallons: daily.
~The lowest, inthe latter part of Octeber,
1892, before the first rain there were, three
hundred six millon gallons daily and at the
same date in 1893, there were three hundred
and forty million gallons daily. Reservoir
site;; six hundred and: seventy-five feet.
Canal leading to resérvoir, ten to eleven
miles. Distance from the reservoir’ to the
City, 120 miles. Pipe line 130 miles. Ca~
pacity of reservoir, 60 days supply. Capacity
of pipe line, fifty-one million gallons daily
at the foot of Market street. Pressure, 250
Ibs to the square inch, at an elevation of 500
feet in the City. Capacity of pipe, 23 mij.
lions, at 480 feet, 28 million gallons daily; 23
millions at 400 feet, 33 millon gallons daily; .
23 millions, at 300 feet, 37 millon gallons
daily; 23 millions, at 250 feet, 40 millon gallons daily. To bring this ‘water to the City
and manufacture the pipe, it will take six
years. This calculation is-based-on the supposition that everything will be manufactured in San Francisco from the ores.
Eczema, or salt-rheum, yields surely toa
persevering use of Ayer’s Sarsaparilla.
Death of Edwin James.
Grass Valley Union: Edwin James, who
for many long years bas been a resident of
Grass Valley, died yesterday afternoon at
his home near the depot. He had been a
sufferer from hydrothorax (water on the
~~ “Fungs) for quite a long time: The deceased
followed mining for a number. of years but
accident. Of late he conducted a saloon
“pear the depot. The deceased was a -warmhearted .and good-natured man and made
many friends. He leaves an aged wife, a
sen and a daughter. He was aged 67
years,-3 months and 13 days, and a native
of Cornwall, England.Wuerx the hair has fallen out, leaving the
head bald, if the scalp is not shiny, there is
a chance of regaining the hair by using
Hall’s Hair Renewer. ,

A Little Daughter
Of a Church of England minister
cured of a distressing rash, by
Ayer’s Sarsaparilla. Mr. RIcHARD
Birks, the well-known Druggist, 207
McGill st., Montreal, P. Q., says:
I have sold Ayer’s Family Medicines
for 40 years, and have heard nothing but
good said of them. I know of many
Wonderful Cures
performed by Ayer’s Sarsaparilla, one
in particular being that of alittle
danghter of a Church of England minis.
ter. The child was literally covered
from head to foot with a red and exceedingly troublesome rash, from which
she had suffered for two or three years,
in spite of the best medical treatment
available. Her father was ig great
distress about the ‘case, and, at my
recommendation, at last began to ad-,
minister Ayer’s Sarsaparilla, two bottles of which effected a complete cure,
much to her relief and her father’s
delight. I am sure, were he here to-day,
he would testify in the strongest terms
