Miss Belle Anderson, who was injured by being thrown from a wagon on Tuesday night, was taken to her home on Indian Fiat yesterday. Her condition is somewhat improved. Geo. C. Gaylord and daughter, Miss Olive, left today for San Francisco on a pleasure trip. His brother-in-'aw, Henry J. A WATERY GRAVE. River on Friday. Thomas Starr, an aged miner, was drowhed in the American river at a point above Stevens’ bridge, between the south side, A skiff was: used in crossing the river each day. H. Miuer, who lives a short distance below, came to Colfax yesterday forenoon and reported the accident. The son was en_. gaged in rowing his father across the river at 6:30 a. m., when the boat filled with water. The son jumped from the boat, but was swept down a rocky rapids ahout 150 feet, He narrowly escaped death after being badly bruised ] against the rocks. The elder Mr, Starr clunged to the boat and was carried down the river. The, boatZwas found bottom up, one-fourth of a mile above Stevens’ trail bridge. The body has not been recovered. . Mr. Starr was a native of Pennsylvania; uged 79 years. He was well known at Datch Flat. Thomas ©. Starr'and wife formerly lived at Colfax, says the Bentinal, a The New Time Table. As stated in yesterday’s TRANSCRIPT the time table of the N.C. N. G. R. R. will be changed tomorrow. The principal change is in the departure of the train for San Francisco, which will leave at 12:35 p. m. instead of 1:30 p. m, and in the arrival of the train in the afternoon at 5 o’clock instead of 5:40. This train connects. with the overland train leaving San Francisco at 8 a. m. and also the overland limited leaving at 10 a. m. The trains will leave her for Colfax at 5:20 a. m., 8:45 a.m., 12:35 p.m.,5:15 p.m. Leave for Grass Valley only— 10 p.m, Arriving from Grass Valley only—8:15 a. m. The returns of the Jeffries-Corbett fight were read off by rounds at the National hotel last evening. There was @ much larger crowd present than usually gathers. on these occasions. Coffee Lost.” San Franoiwco, May. 10.—On the ‘last voyage of the Acapulco from Panama to this port $12,000 worth of coffee was destroyed, and the Pacific Mail Company is not only out the freight money on the shipment, but will have to stand the oss ‘as well. ‘The destruction of the cargo was the result of packing sheep dip into the same hold with the coffee. Young Woman Killed. Sr. Louis, May 11.—Another fatality as a result. of the strike was recorded yesterday. As Flora Siegfried, a young woman, was crossing Wash street carrying an infant in her arms, she was hit on the head with a brick that had been’ hurled at a passing car on the Suburban system. Her skull was fractured, and she died shortly after being carried tothe City Hospital. Ready for Business. It is not generally known that there isa State law that makes it the duty of the Board-of Education to see that every child attending: school is vaccinated. It is also the duty of the Board to furnish all children, whose parents can not afford to do go, with vaccine virus, with which to be vaccinated. The School . Trustees are required © by the same law to make an annual report to the State Board of Health upon how many children attending ‘school have been vaccinated during the year and how many are “attending school that have never been vaccinated.
