Miners Union Will Help
To Advertise theCounty,
In addition to expressing the sentiment of being in “aver of the good
work being carried on by the Neyada
County Promotion Committee, the
Miners’ Union of Grass Valley, at
their last regular meetihg placed the
stamp of its approval upon the worthy
idea of setting forth the merits of Nevada county to the world at large. To
some it may seem singular, but to
those who know it ie nothing strange
to learn that they have decided to purchase five hundred tickets to the picnic to be given by the Nevada County
Promotion Committee, to show the
feeling they have for the project in
hand. The tickets cost. fifty cents
apiece, and is equivalent toa donation
of $250, The people of Nevada county
will be more than ever proud of this
organization, which has placed itself
on record as being in favor of the advancement of the county’s interest and
by doing soin a substantial way. -It
will redound to their credit and they
will be pointed out as being in the van
of progressiveness,
Truekee ltems.
From the newsy Republican of Satarday last:
Tahoe Tavern is the modest name
by which the magnificent hotel érected
at Lake Tahoe by D. L, Bliss, will be
known. It will be a thoroughly up-todate hostelry, modern in all its appointments and first-class in every
particular. Carloads of furniture and
other equipments for the hotel have
been going to the Lake during the
past few days. The opening will take
place the first of June.
W. Watson, section foreman at Floriston disappeared last Sunday and
nothing has been heard or seen of him
since. No reason can be assigned for
his disappearance, He left some of
his clothing in the section house and
said nothing to anyone about leaving.
Joe Ducey, who runs a_ boot-black
stand in front of the Truckee Saloon,
caught one of the largest river trout
we-have seen around here this season,
It was& monster, Naturally he came
to town carrying his prize feeling the
proudest man in Truckee.
Some Indian camps on the bill across
the river burned Wednesday afternoon, There were three of them and
they belonged toIndian Tom. He was
frying meat and went out, and when
he returned the whole interior was
ablaze. The fire was communicated
to the adjoining buildings and made
quite a blaze.

Should Convince You of Its:
Valu,
“What you do, doit well,” is the golden rule of business life. Thisrule and
far reaching command can be profitably observed in many other conditions
of life, In sickness and suffering it
is all-important that “what you do”
to banish disease and restore lost
health, should be well done. While
pradence and common sens¢é will, in
every instancé, direct you aright, the
experience of your friends and neighbors and the thousands rescued from
sickness and suffering, will point directly to Paine’s Celery Oompound as
the infallible health giver.
aie who think they will get rid of
troubles such as rheumatism, neuralgia, dyspepsia, and nervous disorey medicines which have not yet
passed the experimental stage: will be
sedly disappointed and find their sufferings increased.
To get rid of rheumatism, neuralgia
dyspepsia and nervous complaints, it
is wisdom to use Paine’s Celery Com+
pound, a medicine that proceeds at
once to make the appetite normal and
refreshing, the nerves strong, as a

Manager Jacobs has eompleted arrangements with Mr. A, Hotchkiss,
manager of “Husband on Salary” for
the appearance of Stephen Fitzpatrick, Louise Melrose and their excellent supporting com pany for a limited
engagement of one night only—Friday
evening of this week, ‘‘A Husband on
Salary” is one of the brightest comedies in years. Those whoenjey a good
hearty laugh cannot afford to miss
this rare treat. Mr. Fitzpatrick, the
clever, eccentric character comedian
as “Ignatius Foxglove” the scheming
lawyer, is irrisistably funny and he
keeps his audience in screame of laughter, The supporting company is unusually good, including ten of the very
best farce comedy artists that could
be secured, Louise Melrose and the
Le Bretta Sisters will. render several
pleasing specialties during the action

The Downieville Messenger of Sat;
urday, says: The Methodist church
was filled with a large congregation
on Wednesday might to greet Rev. W.
Auvgwin, an old pastor of the church
who is now stationed at Nevada Oity.
Mr, Angwin made his visit into this
county in place of the presiding elder,
who has been expected to visit this
district but was unavoidably detained
below. Mr. Angwin was pastor of the
Downieville district for several years
in the eighties, and has always been
held in the highest. esteém by the
peopls of this commanity, It was,
therefore, with a great deal of pleasure
that many of his old congregation
greeted him again in the pulpit on
Wednesday evening, and he expressed
his deep pleasure in again being able
to meet them. ©
