San FRanoweo, May 13 — Joseph Knowlton, former manager of the St. Nicholas Hotel, for whose arrest a warrant was issued Saturday, charging him with embezzling the fands of his brother-in-la ", James H. Doolittle, is back in this city. He was arrested at Watsonville, whither he fled after his shortages, amounting to $23,000, were discovered, and was returned to the city today.
