Ohe Glorious Fourth.
It Will be Fittingly Celebrated
In Chis City.
The Fourth of July meeting at the
City Hall last night was largely attended, and great erthusiasm was
manifested. f
The meeting was called to order by
'B. F. Snell, Chairman of the General
Committee, snd-the minutes of the
previous meeting were read by the
Secretary, J. E. Carr, and on motion
were approved.
On motion the recommendation a of
the General Committee were approved
and a committee of twenty-five was
appointed by the chair. to canry out
their recommendations.
STRIKERS WRECK
A STREET CAR.
_ ALBANY, N. Y., May 14—The Union Traction Company today attempted to resume operations on their street
railway system, which has been tied up by a strike since
last week.
Two hundred non-union men started to work and the
first car was protected by the police. .
A large crowd immediately dashed into the street and
hurled‘missiles at the motor man.
. The police were unable to keep the crowd back and the
car was wrecked. The motor man ‘and conductor were
badly injured.
It is thought the Governor .will call out the National
Guards to preserve peace.

morning parade, with the Goddess of
Liberty. and the Maids of Honor as
_ features. The usual patriotic exercises will also be held.
On the second day a carnival will
be held, with a beautiful morning
parade,
B.S. Rector announced that the
Lady’s Brass Band of Auburn had
been secured and that they would be
bere in full numbers,

city,and mention of which was made

Miss Rogers, daughter of the County
Superintendent, started to _work this
morning at the County Recorder’s office, taking the descriptions and titles
of the different properties in the county.
The work will be finished by Christmas
and will be something that has long
been needed by people desiring to pur.

At 10:30 -o’clock this morning an
alarm was turned in from box 35 in:
front of Wm. Walter’s residence, occasioned by a burning chimney on the
house of T, W. Sigourney on Coyote
street. From the great columns of
smoke it waa thought the house was on
fire, and the firemen responded promptly, but their services were not needed,
as the blaze was extinguished by the
aid of a garden hose and buckets
of water. No damage. ‘

Deputy Sheriff John H. Pascoe, who
has been confined to his bome with an
attack of pneumonia, was able to be
out to-day, but is still quite weak,
Joseph Waters, who had an operation performed yesterday for the removal of a tumor on the brain, was
doing as well to-day as could be expected.
Mrs. James Chivell, who has been
very sick with pheumonia, was about
the same today, and is still very sick,
Walter Lewis, of the firm of Rice &
Lewis, is laid pp with the mumps.
