Saloon vs. Church.
' Yoiepo, May 15. Rev. F. E. Patton,
a@ young Christian minister of this
city, preached from the stage of Burt’s
Opera House. He said: “By the
practice of the Church more people
are doomed to eternal perdition than
ever caused by tbe saloons or any
other influence. Place no faith at all
in your Churches. Mark my words,
that there will be a _ reformation
that will shake the religious world to
its foundation. Isms and schisms
will be parts of a broken. parachute.”

THEY ARE COMING.
The Madison Square Company to Play
Here Next Week.
The Madison Square Company will
perform in this city all of next week:
at the low prices of 10, 20 and 30 cents.
We think. they will be greeted with
crowded houses every night, for they
are deserving of it. It is a well
established fact that the public wants
to be amused and when suitable amusement is furnished at prices ‘within the
reach of all, liberal patronage will be the
result. There are plenty of good plays
which can be had on reasonable terms,
and plenty of competent actors who
are willing to engage in the production
of the same at a fair living salary.
Mr. Lowe of the Madison Square
Company has secured both and is
presenting a repertoire of modern
in a first class manner, at prices néver
attempted before by a repertoire company. ‘Ten,tewnty, and thirty cents,
and the phenominal business they do
every where attests the wisdom of his
policy. The company’s opening: bill
will be Clifton’s. Eastern success.
