A BIG’ DOLLAR. A Balilroad Excursion and a Circus Ticket For It. 8. H. Barrett, business manager of Sells Brothers’ Gre2t Railroad Siow, was in town Wednesday afternoon arranging for the performances to be given “at Colfax on the afternoon and evening of May 23d. He has entered into an agreement with President Kidder of the Narrow Gauge Railroad Company whereby for the very low a coupon admitting the purchaser to the circus can be purchased. This is an inducement that wilk surely attract thousands of Nevada county people to Colfax on the day in question. Sells Brothers’ show is unquestionably the greatest in every-respect that has ever visited the State, and it will be seen in its entirety at Colfax---a thing that would not be possible should the management. attempt to transport it over the local railroad into this county. In the circus will be seen the leading equestrians, acrobats, etc., of the age, while the menagerie is a complete aggregation of the most stupendous novelties of the animal kingdom. TULLY TRAPPED. A New Amusement. The ‘‘onion social’ is the latest fad at Grass Valley and some other interior towns. This is the way they do it: ihe sociable can be conducted by any number of persons, but it is best to establish some limit, as the pio” tive if too many are in attendfnce. The usual number is six of each sex. It would be well to state here that they should be all unmarried, as there would betray anyone who attended without the consent of their better halves. The six young ladies gd into a room, taking with them an onion— as mild a one as possible. One of the ladies takes a bite of the fiery vogetable and after she recovers from the ordeal one of the gentlemen is admitted. The duty devoloves upon him to select the fair diner. If he is successful she rewards him with a kiss, but if the contrary is the cage they all inflict the hardship upon him. He then retires and another is admitted, and the same. proceedings gone through with until the game travels the round of the entire party, or the ladies become surfeited with their part of the performance.
