Kruger, directly or indirectly, British, dealing with the cessation of hostilities, is. antrue. ° AtrSan Francisco. San Francisco, May 21. Federal authorities at Washington have instructed the Quarantine officers at this port to take charge of measures to suppress the bubonic plague. The «ction of the Washington authorities is thought tobe due not to the seriousness of the situation, but to the inability of the San Francisco authorities to compel the Chinese and Japanese to take precautionary measures against the spreading of the plague. Business in Chinatown is at a standstill. The merchants have closed their stores and are remaining within doors. They-will not submit to inoculation as provided ‘by luw and it is thought it will have th be done with force. Kentucky Governorship. Wasuineton, May 21—The United States Supreme Oourt today decided the Kentucky Governorship in favor of Governor Breekham, diemissing the writ of: error from the Kentucky court of appeals. Thé opinion was handed: down by Ohief Justice Fuller, and a strong dissenting opinion was delivered by Justice Harlan, and McKenna di:sented from portions of the opinion. Congress To Adjourn June 6, WASHINGTON, May 21—Hon. The following business has been transacted in the Superior Court, Judge General house-cleaning, re-painting, re-papering, re-modeling, re-pairing, etc. is going on all over the city. Everything is being done in anticipation of a great celebration here on the 4th of July. : Mr. and Mrs. John Martin were tendered.a surprise party on Friday evening last, being the seventh anviversary of their wedding. Their neighbors took them by surprise when they arrived laden with good things to eat. The evening was delightfully spent in playing cards, etc. A door has been cut in the rear of the County Jail. In case of fire in the neighborhood of the Sheriff’s office, the prisoners would never have been able to escape through the only entrance to tho jail.
