“The Committees Are Laying Out the
Work They Intend to Do.
All the committees on the Fourth of July
celebration are working zéalously and the
arrangements thus far made and the results
accomplished are very satisfactory. The
people are enthusiastic and have subscribed
liberally. It is proposed to get up a celebeation that will attract people from all
over the county and please them after they
have witnessed it. An effort will be made
to have the procession longer and finer than
any similar one yet seen here, The military companies from Grass Valley and
Auburn will doubtless be here, and. prebably the Auburn Fire Department. Grass
Valley’s firemen will be here in full force,
and the above organizations, with our home
militarf and. firemen, will of themselves
form an imposing procession, not to mention
the other attractive features of the parade,
The committee—on literary exercises are
corresponding with, an eminent speaker,
and will know very soon whether he can
act.as orator, ‘There is some talk. of holding the exercises on the street, under a
canvas covering, like they do in Grass Valley.
Seats will be provided -along the principal
streets, between the awning posts, se that
visitors will have no. trouble finding a resting place. Barrels of ice water, with cups
attached, will be placed at convenient spots
—around-the business part of tuwn.
Pythian Band of this city and one or two
bands from Grass Valley will furnish music
during the day and in the evening.
The firemen’s ball at Armory Hall will be
the closing event of the day and should be
well patronized, as the companies will be to
considerable expense in purchasing new
uniforms for the Fourth, and hope to realize
a good sum from the ball.
“The Invitation Committee have sent invitations to all the various orders and societies throughout the county.
Grand Marsbal.E., J. Rector has expressed a desire to appoint as his aids,
representatives from the different organizations.

Hoed’s Cure,
In saying that Hood’s Sarsaparilla cures,
its proprietors made no idle or extravagant
claim. The advertising of Hood’s Sarsaparilla is always within the bounds of reason,
because it is true; it always appeal to the

it is always fully substantiated by endérsements, ‘which in the financial world, would,
be accepted without a moment's hesitation.

The Board of City Trustees, consisting -of }A LIVELY LECTURE.
To the People of Amador County by
a Paper There.
We extract the following from “an article
which appeared in the Amador Ledger of a
recent date:
Since foreign capital put that mine upon
a paying basis itis but right that foreign
capitalists should reap the reward. The
great question however is, ‘‘Why do the
people of Jackson and ef Amador. Gounty
hold back and allow outside capital to develop our mines.” Is it because our people are afraid of investing their money yin
our mining industries or is because they do
not have money to withdraw from their
other business to put into our mines? Whatever the reason may be the facts are so different that to one familiar with Nevada City
or Grass Valley the question is, whether
Amador people have faith in their mining
propositions or not. In Nevada county
many of the mines which have paid handsomely have ‘been developed by Nevada
county capital and as a result dozens of
Nevada county men have been made wealthy
and the money which has been taken out of
their ground has increased the assessment
roll of the county until at the present time
Nevada's assessment roll, population and
many industries far exceed those of any
other mining county. When the projectors
ef a mining proposition in that county desire
to secure assistance by placing stock every
capatalist, every storekeeper, every saloon
. keeper, every hotel keeper, every clerk and
laborer is appealed to and no trouble is experienced in disposing of a majority of the
stock at home. Why the same is -not true
in Jackson we are unable to say, for the
mining prospects hereabouts are just as
good. as those in Nevada county and the
Zelia and Kennedy are just’as ggod indexes
tothe Mother Lode in this county where
depth has to be attained ai“egy mine in
Nevada county.

Atmospheric Expansions,
Sons interesting observatidtis of a
cosmical nature are announced as having
been made by M. Frye, the well known
. hydxographical engineer, who after years
of patient study has calculated the atmospheric expansions and depressions whieh
coincide with spring and neap tides. He
declares there have been cases in which
air was moved in waves 1388 yards high,
and in places where the barometrical
pressure was seven-tenths of an inch, or
6}¢ miles, near the upper surface of the
earth’s ‘atmosphere, condensations and
dilations of this magnitude being frequent, the incandescent and fiuid matter under the earth’s crust is found to
act in concert with the air and, sea at
the full of the moon. This cgnclusion is
based upon the data of observations
made simultaneously at different and
widely distant geographical points, the
fact being .established that the earth
rises and falls like the ocean and the
atmosphere,—New York Sun,
