Will Be Seen Here With Her Comp20y
Wednesday Night.
Thé next attraction at the Opera
House will be Fassi the great Eupopean
spectacular danseuse, who in conjunction with her-own company of vaudville
artiste play here on Wednesday evening next. Fassi will appear in four of
her copyrighted dances. Nothing like
these dances have ever ‘been attempte.i
on any stage before. They call for gorgeous electric effects, beaut wardrobe and lightning changes. _ Wherever produced they have caused a great
sensation, being all original ideas. The
mechanical effects are truly wonderful,
and our citizens, jadging from press
notices, may expect to witness’ .something novel. The spectacular Bicycle
Dance gives with appropriate and realistic effects a‘bicyoling trip in which
the most brilliant and dazzling electrical effects are presented in a startling array of lightning, like changes.
The Cupid or Cloud Dance is ‘another creation of the talented Fassi. The
slowly moving clouds surrounding her the
in representation of Cupid gradually
assume a roseate hue; redder and redder they grow, till they burst out into
fiery, smoky clouds that threaten .to
consume her. The frail wings sre just
on the.point of being sacrificed to the
God of Fire, when a beaatiful transition
takes place. The clouds become hazy
and indistinct, and gradually to the
astonishment and delight of an always
appreciative ‘audience, we see her enveloped and surrounded by sparkling,
rippling water, whose waves embrace
the swimming Cupid. The Silver
Dance is in itself a startling novelty.
The costume is composed of an alloy of
gold and.silver, giving by its ‘special’
manufacture, the necessary pliability.
The most gorgeous effects imaginable
are made possible. Another, a Chinese
dance, is presented with all realism.
Chinese music with Chinese instruments, is played by Chinese musicians
time a Chinese Dance has been presented with ite novel and grotesque steps
outside the Orient. It is very enter-)
taining and interesting. The costames
are brilliant, sensational, and beautifal ‘Parisian ‘creations. Fassi has
been procured at great expense and we
congratulate Mr. Jacobs on securing
such a high class attraction. It should
be greeted with a big house. The

Reapers of war news have probably
been puzzled to understand why so
many Morros are mentioned in the dispatches, and the Record-Union gives
this explanation: There is a Morro Castle at the entrance of the harbor of
Havana, another at the outer point of
San Juan Bautista, Puerto Rico; another Morro Castle at the mouth of the
harbor of Santiago de “Cuba, and so on.
The word “Morro” really means a high
point of lend or promontory.
