Hoskens ons Died In This Gy Yesterday Acernoon, Israel Hoskene, who bas been sick for about a week, died at his residence on Spring street yesterday affernoon at 2 o'clock. He wasa native of Eng-j land aged 56 yearsand 12duys. He leaves a wife and two daughters, Misses Emile and Oarrie Hoskens. The latter is attending school at San Francisco. She returned home by this morning’s train. Mrs, E. Foss of this city isu sister of the deceased. Mr. Hoskens das been a resident of this city tor twenty-four years and most of the time has been engaged in the brewery business, being the owner of the Chicago Brewery on Spring street at the time of his death. Mr. Hosken@was u devoted man to his family, upright in his dealings with his fellow men, aud highly respected by all of his friends. He was a member of Court Garfield, F. of A., Nevada City Department and Milo Lodge, K. of P. The latter organization will take charge of the funeral which will take place tomorrow. The people of Grass Valley will hold a 4th of July meeting tonight, und tne matter of alternating with this city will be disc issed, and it is said there will be strong opposition to any such program. It is hoped that the papers there will publish the proceedings of the meeting in full, so that our people may jadge for themselves about the feeling that prevails in Quartztown in relation to this matter. Rush Creek residents allege that a public thoroughfare which is cut off to their section ha= been fenced in by “Jack” Gilmore, who claims a homestead. The barricade has been repeatediy removed, but they say Gilmore persists in replacing it. A warrant will be issued for Gilmore’s arrest. K. of P.
