Yesterday we published a lengthy. deseription of the Nevada County Power Company, which has been organized to supply motor power for the mines of this county. Many people were surprised at the publication of the article, and, judging from.the comments heard on the street, and published in our morning contemporary, there seems to be somé skepticism relative to ite authenticity and the substantiality of those who have developed the project. But those who are pow most intimately acquainted with its, business and resemrees claim that this action cannot have an adverse effect since its revenues are derived from , sources independent of those now assailed by the Government. Every friend of a high standard of education hopes that these statements are correct and will pray for its perpetuation. The latest attack on the university is ‘of an educational character. The New. The fact that the ex-Superintendent 1s now in possession of wealth amounting to half a million dollars, which amount, has been acquired since be assumed office, is evidence of the manner in which a public trust may be utilized by a shrewd and enterprising officer. He could never have accumulated this vast fortune without entering into collusion witb the criminal element of that city: That he did so was proved at the Lexow investiganearly tion. The circumstances that have culminated in the resignation of Byrnes are well-known throughout the country.
