Santa, Rosa, May 8—Judge Burnett yesterduy afternoon sustained the demurreis of the defendants in the action of the Cured Fruit Association against the Guerin & Walden Company of Geyserville. Thesuit was brought to recovera quanity of prunes, and for damage:. The Court in sustaining the demurrers, holds, among other things, that the point raised by the defendants that damage has not been shown is well taken. The suit was one of much interest here, It was alleged that fortyfive tons of prunes.had been converted by the defendants to their own use. The Population of Nevada City Is about. 5000,.and we. would say at ledst one-half are troubled with some affection of the throat and langs; as those complaints are, according to statistics, more numerous than apy others. We would advise all rot to neglect the opportunity to call on their drug‘gist and get a bottle of Kemps Balsam Price 25c he Union Pacific New York, May 8—The Mail and Express says: It was learned from oiticial sources that William K. Vanderbilt is a ‘large holder of Union Pacific stock, and: that he. acquired his holdings after reaching a fall under. standing with E.H. Harriman. Those in a position to know assert that Mr. Harriman wae’pladed at the “head : of the road at the instance of Mr. Vanderbilt, although. others: deéldre : that: Mr. Harriman is the. joint choice of Messrs, W. K. Vanderbilt, George J. Gould. and Kahn, Loebe & Oo. There is. good ground -for believing that George: J. Gould, as President of ‘the Missouri. Pacific, and a leading director in Union Pacific, has been & heavy buyer of the latter stock, and that by means of his.large private: holdings of stuck, which may later be turned over to the Missouri Pacific; the latter road will, jointly with the Northwestern, and possibly the St. Paul, control the Union Pacific. Hn A, ful Fate. Reppine, Oal., May 8—Standing. between a drain bourd, engaging in wip-} a—.ing dishes this morning, as happy as most ten-year-old girls generally are, little Esther Rollins was suddenly stricken deaf, dumb and motionlees The awful situation in the household of Mr. and Mrs. James Rollins, parents of the girl, was. not long in creating consternation. A physician ‘was summoned and-it is.believed the girl will survive the shock and that the paralysis is but temporary. The attending physician says: the stroke was caused by hemorrhage of the brain induced by some injury to the skuliand brain. It is thought possible thata blow from a stone in the hands of a boy whena mere child may have heen the cause of the stroke. 2ee Married at Grass Valley.
