A gentleman who returned :from Sacramento last evening states that in any contest of beauty that will come up . during the Fair, Miss Hampton will be an easy winner. She was a guest at &@ meeting of the members of the Sutter Ciub and their families-at Sacramento Saturday evening and was the belle of the occasion. Her friends will not be disappointed at the reception she has received. A committee of three, consisting of Jo V. Snyder, chairman; Dr. ©. W. Obapman and Lee Leiter, were appointed tosend out invitations and it was agreed to hold another meeting Monday night for the purpose of seeing what progress is being made. The ‘Transorier has been advising the citizens for some time to call a . meeting and decide whether or not we would celebrate on the Fourth before it was so late that arrangements would have to be rushed, and it now looks as .though we will have by far the best celebration ever witnessed here. Nevada City’s. future never looked any brighter than it does at the present time and if the proposed celebration or carnival materializes it will be of great benefit not only to the whole town but to our merchants most especially. This fact will undoubtedly make them more generous and willing than ever to help swell the funde for observing Independence Day.
