' 4. “ eerie THE DAILY TRANSCRIPT 1895. FRIDAY. ese Be ihe “NOV. 1, GUILTY. A dispatch received at 4:30 this afternoon says the jury in the Durrant case found defendant guilty, after 20 ~ jninutes deliberation. THE MINING INDUSTRY. ie < eet Its Present Condition in the Nevada City y [NUMBER NINETEEN. J : fue MURCHIE MINE, This is one of the oldest mines in the district. Of the many locations now included in. this property that of the ‘‘Big Blue” ir s Neer the first of which there is any record. This : location was made in 1851. The Marchie mine has been one of .the largest dividend payers in this vicinity the yield from its many ledges in the past being enormous Of these ledges a few of the we]]l-knowp oies are: The Big Blue and Red, White and Blue coursing north and south, and the Independence, Up and Down, Wild West, Lone Star, Alice Bell, Cole and numerous small ledges having an easterly and westerly course. ‘Lhe present drain tunnel taps the Cole ledge. .The mine has been extensively developed and many hundred thousands of dullars worth of precious metals extracted ; from its ledges, Large deposits are still 4 kuown to exist in the mine, but the limited working capital of the present company does not permit of the prosecution of such work as is necessary to reach these coveted treasures. A smal] force is now employed in the mine and a tunnel is beinn driven for a ledge which, it is expected, wil! soon be “encountered, Work on the Alice Bell ledge will be _resumed as soon as necessary arrangements can be made which will necessitate « light increase in the present force. Mr. A, W. Blundell] is the company’s Superintendent and ajl work performed at the mine ig under his direction. If they had sufficient capita! to work the mine on a scale which it warrants a very large force of men could be employed, and there igs no question about its proving a big paying proposition, The mine is the largest in this district and contains more known ledges than any other one, They have over four hundred acres of patented ground. —~ + Oe THE DAILY TRANSCRIPT'S Summarized Mention of Minor Home “ .
