The man who was arrested several nights ago in an old cabin out on Greenhorn, on suspicion of being the murderer of Arthur Meyer, is still in the county jail. There is no evidence against him for the above crime, but he is being held to see if he is not wanted for some other offense elsewhere. When arrested he claimed that he was at work in @ brick yard at Auburn on the day of the murder. The Marysville Appeal of Saturday says: Marshal Maben rescued a young girl about 17 years of age from & den cf iniquity in Maiden Lane Friday night and sent her back to her home in Grass Valley. About ten days ago Flossie Clark came to this city and registered at one of the leading hotels as Flossie Starr. She. did not. remain long there as. she took up her abode in a house ef—ill-fame—khown-—as-62,-Maiden—-Lane,The woman that runs the house sent for the Maréhal and notified him that a young girl had taken up her abode in the house. The Marshal went to the house and the girl was ushered into his presence and closely questioned. She stated that Flossie Starr, that she resided in Nevada City and that she was 22 years of age, She volunteered the statement that she had been an-ininateof.a house in Grass Valley for nine months. Not being satistied with her her name was, called upon the Marshal and gave him a letter of introduction from the Chief of Police of Grass Valley. He stated that he was a brother of Flossie Clark, who ran away from her home in Grass Valley, and as she was only 17 years of that he wanted her to go home to her father. Marshal Maben ascertained that the unfortunate girl had not resided in a house of ill-fame before and that the story she told. him was not correct.
