title to certain property. The complaint, which was filed in the County
Olerk’s office today, avers that the
plaintiff is the owner and possessor
of the premises and mining claims
in question. That on August 26d,
1894, defendant James Wishart made
and delivered to R. D. Lawrey a
mortgage for $7,600, with interest at
12. per cent. per annum, the property
being in Grass Valley township.
That on April 24th, 1896, R. D. Lawrey
assigned the note and mortgage to
the plaintiff, and on September
12th, 1896, a decree of foreclosure was
granted, The plaintiff then bid the
property in for $8,968.90. It has been
ascertained that a wrong description
was given in the different documents, hence the suit to*qulet title.
Desirable Weather.
The weather is all that can be desired both for health and business,
Enough rain has already fallen this
season to please the agriculturists of
the county and plowing is an easy
matter now. The sharp frosts every
night are assisting the sunshine in
drying up the roads and the teamsters
will soon be able to resume the hauling of wood and winter supplies, if
the present weather continues,

he was soon much better, but continued their use until he was wholly
cured. I am sure Electric Bitters saved

perfect health. Only 50c at Vinton’s

Soapsuds Dessert.
The tribes on the coast of British Columbia hold a festival -in the autumn,
the crowning item of which is the parBAS S/W ie, =
taking of a few spoonfuls of a bowl of
soapsuds.
They gather in the dingy huts, which
are hung with the staple food—dried
salmon. For light they stick into the
ground, head downward, a silvery fish
about five inches long, set fire to the
tail, and they have a torch, for the fish
burns steadily.
After eating of various unsavory
foods there comes the great treat. This

obtained by crushing in a not overclean
manner the sapoliti, or soap berries,
and squeezing out the juice. This is as
much like soapsuds as it 1s possible to
conceive. The natives sip it from
spoons of black wood, neatly carved,
of which they think a great deal.

New Orleans States: One of the
witnesses in the Schiley-Sampeon inquiry lately testified that Admiral
Schley showed signs of nervous anxfety on going into the naval battle
off Santiago. It would be surprising
if all concerned in that affair did not
find their hearte beating with more
than customary energy. There is
hardly a soldier who has not felt a
certain apprehension on going into a
fight. Once in, however, the matter
is likely to be different. Among
other noted generals who are on record as admitting this nervous feeling
previous to a battle ie Marshal Ney of
France, complimented by Napoleon as
being the bravest of the brave, He is
reported as saying that before engaging in battle he always had to call on
his legs to remember that they were
carrying a soldier.

Jerrreson, City, Mo., November 12—
Alice Nesenbauer, tried in 1900 for
murdering her husband, was today
saved from the gallows by a decision
of the Supreme Court which held that
there was no ground for her conviction, She had been convicted and
sentenoéd to death. Two of Mrs.
Nesenbauer’s children had also died
suddenly, and the fact that all three
had been insured, that Mrs. Nesenbauer objected to a postmortem examination, and the finding of a paokage in the vault, were strong factors
fo heft conviction. Through her trial
and imprisonment the prisoner had
her baby constantly with her.
Deafness Cannot Be Cured.
By local applications, as they cannot
teach the diseased portion of the ear.
There is only one way to cure deafness, and that is by constitutional
remedies. Deafness is caused by an
inflamed condition of the mucous lining of the Eustachian Tube. When
this tube gets inflamed you have a
rumbling sound or imperfect hearing,
and when it is entirely closed deat.
flammation van be taken out and this
tube restored to its normal condition,
hearing will be destroyed forever ; nine
case out of ten are caused by catarrh,
which is nothing but an inflamed condition of the mucous surfaces.
