Woods was in Sacramento Wednesday attending to cases in which he is interested before the Supreme Court. -In conversation Union he faid that the most important question to come before Congress this winter, so far as California is concerned, is the enactment of a law to Exclusion Legistation. { § with a representative of the -Record. declares that until exclusion is made @ permanent policy of this Government there is no guarantee that the Caucasian race will long dominate the States of the Pacific Coast. The exclusion of the Chinese should be made an issue on the highest moral ground, as the only means of preserving the institutions that that race can Laurel Barlor of Native Daughters had-a large attendance at their meetproved to be a very enthusiastic one. The faseinating game known as “Progressive Classifier” was played, there being eight tables, with six members at each ‘table. There were eight judges in all— one for each group of players, The game is played with cards having letters.on them,-and the idea is to guess what they represent. This afforded great amusement, and in accordance with-the rules, the contest narrowed down toa few players. Miss Mary Hook Janette Nicholls came out second, making a record of 60. An elaborate spread was then enjoyed inthe banquet hall, and mirth and jolly repartee held full sway until quite late. : A committee of arrangements was seledted at the regular meeting for the grand ball at New Year's. The ant shrank back at first, then drew nearer, feéling about with its antennse, until it reached the needle. Soon it learned to take the honey off Its keeper’s finger, although ants are among the most timid of living things, and a new odor or the least movement outside their nests usually drives these ttle insects away. ’ This ant is now so tame tbat it quits the bulb as soon as the cork is removed and goes to find the honey on the scientist’s finger. On arrival, the band played and the torches flared, and madame was put in the best of spirits by being escorted to her hotel by the Roumanian nobles. It is not knewn what she would have sald had she been told-that the “nobles” were hired from the streets and dressed up for the occasion by a representative of the manager.
