YUBA RIVER’S: OUTLET.
The Government Contractors Change
Its Course.
MarysvILuE, Nov. 13.—Tbhe Government
contract for the placing of a newmouth to
the Yuba River, which has been in progress
f r three months, was completed last Saturday night, and a portion of the river was
turned into the canal which empties into the
Feather River, 1,260 feet southwest, in
which distance there is at least eight feet o{
fall. The work is very satisfictory,)
and indicates that it will be the means of re
liev ing much outside pressure on the levee
this winter in the event of high water. Sinve
the water was turned in the Yuba has been
lowered at least six inches, and the Feather
has fallen even more than that, which indi. eates favorable results in the scouring out of
the Feather river below the mouth. of the
Yuba, something long desired by the orchard
ists on the river bottom north of Marysville.

A,Fact Worth Remembering.
There are many such of course, but here
is one which specially commends itself to invalids, viz., that in order to acquire vigor,
the basis of health, that invigoration is only
possible by re-establishing the functions of
digestion and assimilation upon a permanent
basis. Stomachics in name are numberless.
They impart a slight stimulus to appetite—
nothing beyond this. Much more is required,
and Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters ‘‘fills the
Lill.” This time-honored standard invigor
ant builds up an enfeebled physique and protects it. against disease’ by insuring the
thorough conversion of the alument received
into the stomach into blood and bodily
tissue. Clothed with increasing strength
through this unfailing agency, the system i+
defended against influences prejudicial to
health. Use the:Bitters in malaria, rheumatism, kidney and liver trouble and conatipation, = Pee ee

Cured by Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral.
Mrs. P. D. HALL, 217 Genessee St.,
Lockport, N. Y., says:
“Over thirty years ago, I remember
heamng my father describe the wonderful curative effects of Ayer’s Cherry
Pectoral. During a recent attack of La
Grippe, which assumed the form of a
catarrh, sorénéss of the lungs, accompanied by an \aggravating cough, I
used various remedies and préscriptions.
While some of these medicines partially
none of them afforded me any relief frem

such nights, I was

Bending the Knee to Foreigners.
A clever New York woman of assured
social position frankly admitted to a
horrified Frenchman of rank that nothing of a lower grade than the imperial
or republican head of a great nation, in
his representative capacity, could win
from her a bend of the knee, The
princelets, male and female, were but
everyday folk in her eyes, quite without
social ‘‘divinity,” and to them she refused to make obeisance. The lady's
distinction is self respecting and truly.
