The best advice that. can be given
probably‘ is: Take all the advice you
can get and then do as you please. The
successful person, or the one whom the
crowd counts successful, is being constantly besieged with applications for
advice how to succeed. He is generally
incapable of giving it. The same advice, outside of a few maxims generally applicable, is seldom good for two
persons. Advice, as a. rule, is cheap
and about as valuable as most cheap
things. To be constantly following advice without stopping to consider its
is the plain mark of weakness.
t is this trait of weak human nature
which makes the business of the patent medicine maker so profitable. The
person of power is the one who neither
gives nor takes advice in generous
quantities. The world would be better
off if advice were much less plentiful.
Then, perhaps, its quality might rise’in
proportion to its scarcity.—New London Telegraph.
Her Troubles. _
Single Man (to himself)—I am ‘sure
that darling little angel loves me. She
takes me into her confidence and tells
me all her troubles.
Same Man (some, years later)—Confound it all! From morning till night
and night till morning when I’m at
home I hear nothing but tales about
the servants, the butcher, the butler,
the baker, the candlestick maker and
all the rest of ’em.
An Eye For Business.
“J am afraid the nobleman who is to
become. your son-in-law has not much
talent for business.”
“J don’t know,” answered Mr. Cumrox. “If he can manage to get as good
prices for other merchandise as he
does for a title I’ll trust him to take
his chances in business,”—San Fray
The Whale’s Appetite.
A whale’s appetite is phenomenal.
His chief diet consists of jellyfish. He
has simply to open his mouth and pad
dle along leisurely in order to take in
jellyfish by ‘the wagon load. Such is
the method adopted by the whalebone
whale. The sperm whale, on the contrary, captures huge squids weighing
often several tons. Like his brother
the whalebone whale, he must be constantly on the lookout for food; otherwise he would starve. AS many as
fourteen seals have been taken from a
thirty foot “killer.” Other fishes of
enormous appetites are not uncommon,
The bluefish, for example, thrives on
sardines and other small fish. . Assumr
ing that one bluefish eats ten small fish
a day, it has been figured that it re
quires 10,000,000,000 sardines to feed
the 1,000,000,000 bluefish on our coasts
every summer. Most curious of all
ters is the hydra—a strange creature

ng its appetite or its power te

Prevention of Corns.
There are suggestions without number for the cure of corns. Any reputable chiropodist and some who are not
reputable can furnish an unfailing
remedy. But there is one sure way to
prevent them. Don’t wear the same
pair of shoes two days in succession.
Corns are caused by friction on the
toes, and the most expert bootmaker
cannot make two pairs of shoes which
will rub the feet in the same place.
The change of shoes gives the feet a
chance to rest. It is also good for the
shoes, and footwear which is treated
in this fashion will last much longer
than if put to daily use.
For that thirst try a cool, sharp glas
of beer at Britland’s.
