Trouble Feared.
Reppine, November 16—More lynching is imminent in Modoc county,
Last week a body of armed men in ambush killed a lot of sheep and a dog
belonging to Jobn Robinson near Alturas. Several like outrages have been
‘committed before and the authorities
have shown no disposition to panish
the offenders. Now citizens of Modoc
are organizing for protection and the
avowed purpose is to hang the offenders when caught. The Pleindealer,
Modoo’s newspaper, sounde a warning
that mob law is very likely to step in
and do what the common law should
do. Trouble is feared,

ap to the property yesterday. It is
their intention to develop this mine
and while there they wiil determine
upon the best mode of proceedure.

One of the properties to thus spring
into prominence and renown is the
West Point or “Nigger Johnson” mine
at Deadmen’s Fiat. This property,
whichis being operated by Estee and

and its operators will extract all the
rock possible before placing machinery apon the: ground to work it to

is supposed to be an extension, is-now

an action entitled Riley vs. Estee &
Snook. The West Point is joined by
the Normandie, another equally good
property owned and operated by Frank
Dulmaine of Grass Valley. This mine
has produced more than $100,000 from
veins ranging in width from twelve to
weeke ago by Frank Enzensperger to
Root & Heiener. It ie being worked
steadily and is the deepest mine ia the
district, being down 185 feet, It has
four distinct ore shoots and has yielded to date more than $700,000. Near
Deadman’s Flat is the Bleck Bear
imine, which is being operated by
Henry Schroeder. The vein has been
opened up by a series of tannels and
the ledge therein is strong and well
defined, being eight feet in width.
There is a small two-stamp prospecting mill on the property. Test rane
from this mill has shown resulte of
$5 a ton in free gold and $60 in sulphurete. Lower down in the district
Gounty Assessor Schroeder has bonded the Osceola mine to Frank Enzensperger, who yesterday put four men
to ‘work and they have commenced
sinking a new shaft. The shaft. will
be sunk to a depth of 100 feet on the
ledge, when drifts will be run both
ways. The vein is sbout three feet in
width. There {sa tannel on the vein
which is in 800 feet. At the Ironclad
mine a shaft is down 400 feet and work
is progressing quietly, A two-stamp
mill is operated on the property and
the ore runs in value from $75 to $100
