Business Transacted at the Meeting
ei Yesterday.
The Nevada county Commissioners for
the Midwinter. Fair:met at Grass Valley
yesterday; President 8. P. Dorsey presiding. Commissioners Zeitler and Mainhart
were present, and the Secretary, D. B.
Marwick.
It was decided that a committee of three
representative citizens from Nevada City
and Grass Valley be appointed to collect
funds to aid in carrying eut the exhibit.
Accordingly the chair named the following:
William Giffin, Fred Searls, Hon. E.' M.
Preston, of Nevada City, and Samuel
Granger, William Campbell and Charles H.
Mitchell, of Grass Valley, It was the
sense of the meeting that the Citizens Bank
be Treasurer.
The appointment of parties to collect ore
for the exhibit was postponed until the next
meeting.
It is also the desire of the Commissioners, says the Telrgraph, that every member
of the committee and sub-committees use
every energy to make Nevada county’s, exhibit second to none in the State. -A united
action is necessary and the committee feel
certain that all will be harmonious and enthusiastic in the future. There is but a
short time to go on and active work is
necessary. The meeting adjourned to assemble again at the call of the President.

Killing Female Daae.
It is said-that some of the hunters have
been killing female deer lately, Ié is unlawful to kill does, and the State Sportsmen’s Club and the Grass Valley club will
prosecute any one who is informed on. The
protection of does‘and fawns for a number
of years past has caused a great increase in
the number of deer, and any reasonable
person can seé the beuefit’ thereof ‘and will
‘cheerfully observe the law. The present
law prohibits any one from selling deer meat,
and it is a good provision, too, as it shuts
off the pot hunters who have made 4 business of killing them for the market, and
inereases the chanées of the sportsman amd
ethers to shoot a deer occasionally.
